Guys there is no limit on which profiles people can work on but i would ask that you make friends with your "local" curator.

There is no reason to make duplicates except in very limited circumstances. If you think you NEED to make a dupe discuss the situation with a curator.

Merge as much as you want but if in doubt don't proceed.

Though some may be skeptical of the genealogical proof, many secular researchers of genealogy have studied the line of David. The research is facilitated by the fact that a number of European monarchs throughout history have gone to great lengths to prove family ties to the Davidic Dynasty, and a solid ancestry has been established.

Dr. Anwar Michael Ibrahim Thanks for posting that link, very interesting read.

Dr Anwar Michael Ibrahim the problem with monarchs trying to prove a direct family line to some historical person is that they employed people to do the reserach. These people were usually monks. These reasearchers often wanted to please their patron found exactly what he wanted. We saw this for instance with kings trying to prove their relationship with Odin..

yes, Robert I have heard of this idea before and it is quite logical; so are the other signs throughout history pointing to some validity..

I am all for cutting out manifestly fake descents.

The problem is (usually) finding where a fake descent starts and ends. Odin is not a historical figure. David may not be. Israeli archaeologists (mostly secular) were at one stage quite certain that he was an invention. More recent finds suggest that the Davidian tradition has some historical truth.

If all the descents are cut, they will merely reappear as someone else adds and merges the cuts. Much better to leave them with "fictional" or "fictional?" added to the profiles, with notes as appropriate. A lot of work, but better than endless cutting of repeat merges.

And since we have Christian (and, no doubt, Jewish and Muslim) fundamentalist users who still believe that we can find a genealogical path to Adam and Eve, we should give them some room, I suppose, although I don't like fundamentalisms of any sort. Let The Donald find a way of keeping them all out of the USA.

Mark

I agree on that Mark, otherwise it will never end, and then we also have some boneheads that cuts every line that is not carved in stone so to speak, as one man who married away his daughter but not mentioned hers name specific, it could have been another of HIS daughters, to that same man, just cut of her parents, tired of some curators that act like a single judge, jury and executioner at the same time and actually thinks they now whats best for us all and the tree without any need for others opinion.
