Hi everyone -
I'm here because I have a question. Christopher Baler is not named in John Baker's will. Before dismissing that John Baker is not his father, I think he was his father but something which left Christopher out of the will. I thought of several reasons. 1-Perhaps Christopher had enough income of his won at the time of his father's death. 1588, was the year John died, was the year of the Spanish Armada 2-Christopher was the son of John's first wife, who had no noble ties. While Catherine's brother was married to the father of Anne Boelyn's sister, John's second wife had a coat of arms and noble ties. I don't know, but perhaps Christopher was "forgotten about" in favor of John's family with his second wife. It happens. 3-Perhaps Christopher changed his religion from Catholic to Protestant. Sir John Baker was Catholic. Perhaps there was disagreement there .
I've been trying to find out whether the turmoil in the court of England was representative of all of English society, or what affect the royal turmoil had on the English public? During that time, were sons cut from their father's wills? Or perhaps Christopher chose a profession of which his father did not approve. "Children hanging with the wrong crowd" is a typical English story of woe. For example, there is the story that Henry V hung out in bars and greatly distressed his father, Henry V finally straightened up, So the last makes sense as well.
Thoughts? Thanks in advance.
