Bottom line: FindAGrave has a wrong image attached to their version of Elizabeth le Despenser, Baroness Berkeley

https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/62129111/elizabeth-le-berkeley

And continue to claim that “ Portrait of Elizabeth (de Spencer) Berkeley which hangs at Berkeley Castle. A Victorian period portrait based on an earlier likeness.”

Can we explain that this is an unlikely label? In fact, I haven’t been to Berkeley Castle myself, but my guess is that if there, it probably is captioned as of Mary Frances Elizabeth, suo jure Baroness le Despenser

Thanks for thoughts and assistance. The mis label has infiltrated the Interwebs.

One of the contributors to the FindAGrave page is https://www.findagrave.com/user/profile/46947920, who is the author of the very useful page, https://www.packrat-pro.com/ships/shiplist.htm

Perhaps worth asking her help.

For what it's worth, if you e-mail FindAGrave about incorrect images, they're really great about pulling them down.

The member who added the image refused. So who do we contact?

https://www.findagrave.com/contact

The info is here: https://support.findagrave.com/s/article/Questions-about-Photos#How...

You want the photos@ e-mail address. They won't help you unless you specify which Community Rule was violated, and in these cases, it's Community Rule E, which says users have to agree to not add [or, in this case, leave up] incorrect info.

Based on my past experience, I would just write something like,

Hello, FindAGrave,

I have contacted a user who uploaded an incorrect image, and they have declined to remove it despite the evidence that it's incorrect. Since this violates Community Rule E, I am requesting your help in removing it.

The image at https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/62129111/elizabeth-le-berkeley is actually of Mary, Baroness le Despencer, from 1845, as proven by the British Museum at https://www.britishmuseum.org/collection/object/P_1865-1014-570

If you want, you can reassign the image to Mary's profile at [insert FindAGrave link here]. If you're unable to reassign it, it can simply be deleted.

Thank you very much for your help."

Sorry I can't help Erica - I know little about Find A Grave and the medieval examples I've seen make me want to stay even further away.

Indeed!
