Hi everyone,
I'm testing the new discussion feature and explaining why we have the
Barnes Project.
Erica's seventh great grandfather, Brinsley Barnes (1715-1796), was a
gentleman of the Quaker Faith, of Scots origin, who emigrated to
Pennsylvania around 1740. In Geni she learned his family stretches
back in time as well as forward -- and from you all we learn that the
Barnes likely emigrated to other areas as well.
I am Angus, her fellow co curator; I will help clean up the family
lines, make Master Profiles, and work on the particularly gnarly bits
of the tree.
We *all* get to document and research.
Our next steps are --
-- load geni profiles to the Project
-- merge together any duplicates
-- make Master Profiles (one single correct copy)
To add to Project:
- go to the profile
- More actions (drop down)
- Add to Project (drop down)
-- List (highlight)
-- Close
X to remove a profile from Project.
If you don't have edit rights to a profile, write on the discussion
list and Erica or I will add it to the Project.
Erica and I will make the Master Projects. The easiest way is to
bunch the URL's profiles together and ask, through the "discussions"
list, "ready to be a Master Profile."
Best regards,
Erica Howton

Correct. That way we can really start to look at the patterns, migrations, separate unrelated families if there are any, share documents across profiles. Projects are a different view and illumination onto the tree.
And in the future, someone who is researching their Barnes family will find it much easier to gain collaborative permissions to their ancestral profiles by joining the Project, instead of waiting for different users to get on line.
Curious I did a relationship path from
Brinsley Barnes, I
Brinsley Barnes
Thomas Barnes
Thomas Barnes, Sr
Are they related??
Angus, my name is John Robert Barnes.I have started my family tree on Geni, however my cousin Ken has done extensive work on one branch of the Barnes tree. You can contact him at kenbarnes12@yahoo.com. Just tell him his cuz John Robert sent you. I hope this will help you in what you are doing. Thank you Angus for helping all of us, please let us know if we can be of any further service and do keep us posted please. John

You are now a Barnes Project Collaborator and I welcome your additions to our Barnes lines.
You are not yet connected to "the big tree" -- cousin Angus or others can explain that better -- and I want you to take your time to get there. Also I want your information.:)
But since you aren't in the "big tree" I can't use the geni "how are you connected" technology to try and find our common ancestors.
Now I took a quick look at my Ross line, which is a reasonable start from from my third great grandfather William Ashburn 'Old Billy' Ross
And no Catherine Barnes are obvious. So I went to look at my 7th great grandfather, Brinsley Barnes:
and I'm not seeing anything that jumps out at me either.
Yet I am still pretty sure we may be connected both through Ross and Barnes lines.
Why? Because of the burial in Hand County, South Dakota. "In 1875 Billy Ross and Haley left Arkansas, traveling by covered wagon over the Oregon Trail to the frontier of the Idaho Territory. They lived the remainder of their lives among many of their descendants who also shared in that trek."
In doing "quick research" on wagon trains of 1875 I remember reading of a group that settled in South Dakota. Their times seemed very hard so I moved myself along to Idaho and Oregon following my more direct migration paths.
I have a number of Barnes profiles. I think most are related to me through marriage. Related branches are Scott, Porter, Shipley, Riggs and maybe a couple others. If you think I could help in a significant way, I would be happy to join the project. For starters, do you want my Barnes profiles added to your project?
Tammy,
Your help is always welcome. We would be honored if you collaborate.
I think the most useful profiles to add to the project are for key people like "first immigrants" to a country, state, or where two significant families intersect. Please make them Master Profiles or make sure you have manager rights.
I also think it's useful in a Family name project to "park" "mystery Barnes" so that someone can "make a connection," perhaps.
I am new to all of this and I am a direct descendent of Thomas Barnes of Farmington b.1615, Joseph Barnes b.1651, Joseph Barnes, b.1702, Sarah Allen (Barnes) b.1726. Sarah was my 5th great grandmother, who married Joshua Allen b.1728. Their son Joshua Barnes Allen b.1757 married Eve Allen.Their son Joshua Allen b.1787 married Rebecca Allen. Their daughter, Elizabeth Frum (Allen) 1833-1923 married John Frum 1827-1886. Their son was Jerome Frum 1867-1942, who married Isis Frum (Bartlett) 1866-1944 Their son was Ebert Latorus Frum 1905-1972 who married Georgia Elizabeth Frum (Selvey) 1905-1979. Their son, my father, was Donald Richard Frum 1929-2013. I am his daughter Joan Frum and I have more info about this branch if you are interested.
Would love your contributions! Have you connected your tree to the existing profiles on Geni? The idea is "build up" from yourself until there's a "match" - then it becomes one World Family Tree," as correct & well documented as we can make it. I'll send you a collaboration request to make the process easier.
