Michael KORNFELD, son of Bernard

Judy's tree has solved a mystery. Hugo Gold's article mentions Michael KORNFELD as second son of Mordechai Beer KORNFELD, but had found no trace of him. However, death notices revealed nine KORNFELDs whose mother was the widow Louise KORNFELD (nee BERAN) , died 9 Nov 1899 in Goltsch Jenikau in her 82nd year. Judy's tree now makes it clear that Louise was married to Michael KORNFELD, and that the large number of children were actually from two wives.

When I have time, I'll add to Geni what I have on this family.

Wow. I can't believe you deduced that so quickly. Amazing.

This may not be correct, my head is spinning with berans and kornfelds, but there is a Louise Beran profile and now a Louise (Beran) Kornfeld profile. Could these be the same person?

That is excellent news! your theory seems to be confirmed. And we could say we're one step closer to confirming that Bernard = Mordechai Beer.

(I took some pictures in the Golcuv Jenikov cemetary that I have stored somewhere, and will add or send when I have the time. Some are of random or known Kornfelds, and some are old graves with only Hebrew text. Maybe if someone can read the Hebrew there may be additional clues.)

Wonderful collaboration, all.

There are indeed many other users, including some curators, who can assist in reading the Hebrew text.

I suggest that once you get them uploaded, you create another thread asking specifically for translation assistance and include links to the images.

If I notice it and others haven't stepped up already, I'll tag some of the individuals who might be able to add some insight.

Jenna,

Are you a curator? Can you tell me what that means -- I've seen this before and I'm curious. I find there is a lot about Geni that could be made clearer if there were a help section with information on how to get additional information on how to use the site -- so much of what we're discovering as to how to use the site is hit or miss. I have a lot of technical questions which frankly, I'd love to know where I can go to get answers. And we have the patience to try to figure it out. Many people who start with your site stop because they get frustrated -- and of course that leads to frustration for others, who would like to merge duplicate information and we get no response from the people who have started trees and abandoned them. Thanks.

Judy

Yes, Judy, I am a Curator.

Curators are volunteers who work closely with both Geni staff and users in a variety of ways. There are now 80 of us around the world, some of us have been serving in this capacity since September and some have been brought on as recently as this week. Basically, we're here to help. There is information on the Wiki page which goes into greater detail about who we are, what we can help with, etc., http://wiki.geni.com/index.php/Curators

There is also a Public Discussion, http://www.geni.com/discussions/80793 , where you can ask for assistance.

Links to a variety of helpful topics can be found in the help forums, http://help.geni.com/home

So! There are a lot of places to search for help. Or, you can always start a public message, or send one of us a direct message to our inbox!

(I wholeheartedly agree! There is so much more Geni could do to educate its users and guide us along. I'm always preaching "Educate, Engage, and Empower" in all of our curator discussions with Geni staff. They are an involved and responsive staff and have made great strides of late, but there's *so* much more we could do! I'd love to hear more of your observations - thoughts about where people get frustrated, confused, disenchanted... and what you think would be helpful in preventing discouragement. I don't have any power, but I do speak up!)
