Aino Walimaa 1921 - 2018 Obituary Aino Walimaa, aged 97 years, a resident of Thunder Bay, passed away peacefully in TBRHSC on Monday, January 22, 2018 with family by her side. Aino was born January 6, 1921 in Suistamo, Finland. She immigrated to Canada with her first husband Matti Kangasaho and son Mauri. Aino became widowed and later married her second husband Arvi John Walimaa and had a daughter Judy Ann Walimaa.
Aino's first place of employment was at the Hoito Restaurant, which kept her close to her Finnish Heritage. Later she became employed at McKellar Hospital as a housekeeping aide which she thoroughly enjoyed and took pride in her work. She retired in 1986 and then volunteered at the hospital for over 500 hours.
Aino's life exemplified the Finnish word SISU as she faced the challenges in her life, fierce and determined to the very end.
Aino was predeceased by her son Mauri Allan Kangasaho, 2005 husband Arvi John Walimaa, 1998 and first husband Matti Kangasaho, 1957.
Aino is survived by her daughter Judy Ann Walimaa; grandchildren Mauri Jr. Kangasaho (Cheryl) and Bernice Kangasaho (Guy Gagne); great grandchildren Jonathan, Lily and Pia; niece Judy Killer and family, niece Lorraine Oliver and family and Hope Stancombe (family dedicated worker and friend).
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, February 1 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Jenkens Funeral Home. Celebration of Life Service will be Friday, February 2 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation being held one hour prior starting at 10:00 a.m. at Jenkens Funeral Home. Reception to follow. A private family interment will be held at Riverside Cemetery.
