About Albrecht Ernst von Manstein auf Thomsdorf

Albrecht Ernst von Manstein, oldest son of Georg Wilhelm von Manstein, army captain and squire of Kauckern (https://www.meyersgaz.org/place/10944022) and his wife Anna Loysa von der Trenck, was baptised 21 May 1699 at Groß Scharlacken (https://www.meyersgaz.org/place/10655050), his maternal grandfather's estate, where his mother had gone to give birth. Albrecht Ernst joined the Prussian army in March 1718 as a corporal and, by now a lieutenant, received a medical discharge in May 1731. In March 1736 he rejoined the garrison regiment of Königsberg. In August 1739, by now a first lieutenant of grenadiers, he transferred to the garrison battalion of Memel. In August 1744 he was promoted to captain. With the grenadiers of Ludwig von L'Hopital, garrison commander of Memel, he marched in July 1745 to Silesia during the Second Silesian War against Austria. After the conclusion of that war, Albrecht Ernst and his wife Catharina Sophia nee von der Trenck (also his first cousin) bought the estate of Thomsdorf (https://www.meyersgaz.org/place/20948055). In December 1755 he was promoted to major in a grenadier battalion stationed in Königsberg. He was put in charge of a battalion during the general mobilization at the beginning of the Seven Years' War. He was wounded 30 August 1757 at the battle of Groß-Jägersdorf (https://www.meyersgaz.org/place/10642036), in which an outmanned Prussian army managed to halt a Russian advance on Königsberg, and died of his wounds on 8 January 1758.
