Anna Magdalena Burckhart was born about 1653, at Zimmerhof, a farm in the village of Heinsheim, identified only as the daughter of "the Bishop's farmer" in her marriage to Hans Christoph Bauer. Her family name was Burckhart, but the first name of her father is not known. Her brother, "Peter Burckhart, the Bishop's farmer's son," sponsored baptism of her daughter by Bauer. Anna married Johannes Heyd at Jagsfeld in 1679 but they lived at Heinsheim where he may have taken over Bauer's butchering business and their first two children were born at Heinsheim. By the end of 1683, they were living in Bonfeld, where Anna Magdalena died April 9, 1695. The entire Palatinate as well as Margravate of Baden and Duchy of Wuertemberg were officially Protestant (predominantly Lutheran), but there was a small Catholic minority in the region. Anna Magdalena is described in her death record as "devoted to the Roman Catholic Church," and special permission had to be granted to bring a pastor of "her religion" from nearby Wimpfen to perform the funeral rites.
