- In the name of God Amen. I Armistead Morehead of the County of Muhlenberg & Commonwealth of Kentucky being weak in body & being also in my perfect mind & memory, but calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing & believing that it is appointed for all mankind once to die, I have thought proper while in my perfect mind to make this my Last Will & Testament.
- In the first place my will is that my just debts be paid.
- Secondly I give & bequeath to my beloved wife Polly Morehead one feather bed & furniture, three cows to her and her heirs forever. It is also my will that my said wife have the use of the farm whereon I now live until my son Armstead Morehead arrives to the age of twenty one years. I also give my said wife one horse creature to be Valued to fifty dollars to her and her heirs forever. Also twenty dollars in money that she may have an opportunity of buying such farming tools and household furniture as she may think proper.
- I give and bequeath to my daughter Susan Watkins five Shillings to her & her heirs forever.
- I give & bequeath to my Grandchildren Cynthia An Hughs & Charles Hughs, children & heirs of my deceased daughter Polly Hughs one shilling each to them & their heirs forever.
- I give & bequeath to my daughter Julia Edwards five Shillings to her & her heirs forever.
- I give & bequeath to my son Armistead when he arrives to the age of twenty one years one hundred and sixty four acres of land including the farm whereon I now live to him and his heirs forever.
- The balance of my land I leave to my two sons William & Henry being one hundred and sixty three acres each.
- My will is that all my stock of horses(?), Cattle, Sheep, hogs &c. of every description that is not before willed, my farming utensils, household & kitchen furniture be sold on a credit of twelve month and the proceeds thereof be equally divided between my six sons, Charles, Alfred, John, William, Henry & Armistead as they severally come of age. To them & and their heirs forever.
- I give and bequeath to my son William my Lot of Blacksmith tools. To him & his heirs forever.
- At my death my will is that my Negro man Sam & my negro Girl Lear be hired out yearly until my youngest Son comes of age. At which time it is my will that they be sold at a credit of twelve months and the money arising from this hire and sale be equally divided among my three youngest sons William, Henry & Armistead & their heirs forever.
- It is my will that my three youngest sons William, Henry and Armistead pay one hundred & ten dollars cash an equal portion out of their part of my estate for the said negro girl.
- Whereas I have heretofore given to my son Alfred sixty Eight acres of land where he now lives & having never made him a title to the same, I now give & bequeath the same to him & his heirs forever.
- And should either of my three youngest sons, to wit, William, Henry & Armistead die before coming to the age of twenty one, it is my will that the survivor of them enjoy the property hereby willed to the one that so dies. I do hereby appoint my son Alfred Morehead & John Redman to be executors of this my last will & testament, requiring them to have my body buried decently in a Christian like manner to be paid for out of the proceeds of the first sale of my property named in this will.
- I do hereby revoke & make void all former wills by me made & declare this & no other to be my last will & testament.
- In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 17th day of August in the year of our Lord 1826. Armistead Morehead (Seal)
