About Elizabeth Beebe

James Rogers's five sons are the progenitors of as many distinct Rogers lines, each tracing to its immediate founder. His daughters were women of great energy of character. Elizabeth married Samuel Beeby; Bathsheba married, first Richard Smith, and second Samuel Fox. She was an early seceder from the church, and was much persecuted for doing so.

On a tombstone in Orient, Suffolk County, N.Y. may be found the following:

  • "Here lyes Elizabeth, once Samuel Beebe's wife,
  • "Who once was made a living soul, but now deprived of life,
  • "Yet firmely did believe that at her Lords return,
  • "She should be be made a living soul in her own shape and form,
  • "Has now layd down this mortal life in hopes to life in Heaven.

Elizabeth Rogers was born on April 15, 1658 in New London, New London, Connecticut and died on June 10, 1716 on Orient Island, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York. She was the daughter of James Rogers, Sr. (1615-1687) and Elizabeth Rowland (1619-1709).

James Rogers was born in 1615 in Stratford on Avon in Warwickshire, England and sailed for the American Colonies on April 15, 1635. He arrived at Massachusetts Bay in Massachusetts in about late May or early June of 1635. He married Elizabeth Rowland on March 2, 1640 in Stratford, Fairfield County, Connecticut. Elizabeth was born in 1619 in England but at this time I don't know when she arrived in the Colonies.
