James Ashton was born in England.
James Ashton, was born say 1580 in England, probably in Hertfordshire. This is based on the baptisms of the Ashton children beginning in 1603.

We know he had one wife, Alice. Alice was named as mother in the baptisms of their oldest two children.[1] There are no records that suggest that there was a previous wife.[2] Alice was buried 22 May 1643, at St. Albans Abbey, England. Alice had a trunk and desk which she left her daughter Alice, which the daughter Alice left her daughter Alice.[2]

James was buried at St. Albans Abbey 27 May 1651.[2]

James Ashton, son of James Ashton, was baptized 4 March 1603/4.[1][2] This is James the immigrant.
Marie Ashton, daughter of James Ashton, was baptized 25 August 1605.[1][2] Mary Ashton married, at St. Albans Abbey, Thomas Olney 16 Sep 1629.[1][2] Thomas and Mary were immigrants to Providence.
John Ashton, son of James Ashton, was baptized 7 June 1607.[1][2]
Martha Ashton, daughter of James Ashton, was baptized 12 March 1608/9.[1][2] Martha was buried 12 November 1624.[1][2] ? Also Martha Ashton m. Tho: Redman 16 Dec 1635.[1]
Alice Ashton, daughter of James Ashton, was baptized 10 February 1610/11.[1][2] She was buried 27 July 1613.[1][2]
Elizabeth Ashton, daughter of James Ashton, was baptized 7 March 1612/13.[1][2] She was buried 3 Sep 1616.[1][2]
Daniel Ashton, son of James Ashton, was baptized 2 April 1615.[1][2] Daniel married Dorothy Stone 30 Jan 1639/40.[1][2]
Alice Ashton, daughter of James Ashton, was baptized 1 February 1617/18.[1][2] This second Alice married Thomas Angell.[2]
Sara Ashton, daughter of James Ashton by Alice his wife, 23 Feb 1619/20.[1][2]
Thomas Ashtone, son of James Ashtone by Alice his wife, was baptized 18 April 1630.[1][2][3]
