Reed, Edward, F. “The English Ancestry of William Reade of Weymouth” in Proceedings of the Reade Historical and Genealogical Association, Boston: 1907. Page 27. < Archive.Org >
Sir William and Lucy (Heneage) Reade were father and mother of William Reade of Weymouth, the first progenitor in America of this branch of the Reed family. They had four children, as follows, viz. :
- 1. John Reade, Barrister of Gray's Lm, London, who did not emigrate to America, but remained in England and died there unmarried.
- 2. William Reade of Weymouth, our progenitor. (UNPROVEN). See William "of Weymouth" Reade
- 3. Rebecca Reade, who married a Mr. Wansford.
- 4. Anne Reade, who married John Brewer, and who probably married previously, or secondly. Thomas Hatlon, Merchant of London
His brother John, Barrister of Gray's Inn, survived our ancestor several years. I have a copy of the will of John Reade, in which he bequeaths to his sisters, Rebecca (Reade) Wansford, and Anne (Reade) Brewer, all his property with the exception of a few minor bequests, among which were four pounds annual]}' to his servant Alice Greenway, during her life, ten pounds to his cousin. Sir Michael Heneage, to buy him a ring, and ten pounds to his cousin Richard Reade, but no bequest or mention of his brother's widow and children, across the sea. He died unmarried.
