iv JOHN, b. say 1644; m. Duxbury 16 November 1669 Mercy Pabodie.
Moses Simmons, who came on the Fortune in 1621, named his son John in his will of 17 June 1689 (Plymouth Co PR, #18,375, 1:106; MD, 31:60). John was brother to Mary Simmons who married Mercy's uncle Joseph2 Alden (No. 4). On 7 April 1695 John Simons, Aaron Simons, and Job Simons "Sons of Moses Simons" divided property inherited from their father's will (Plymouth Co PR, #18,375, 3:44).
John Simmons served on the jury that held an inquest into the death of David Standish of Duxbury at the Plymouth County court of 26 October 1686. The jury concluded that Standish had died when a small tree he had been cutting fell on him. In March 1692 Simmons was on a jury which tried an action between Adam Wright and Benjamin Soul, and in September 1692 he was absent from the grand jury. In September 1690 John Sirnons of Duxbury was licensed as an innholder (Plymouth Co Ct Recs, 1:191, 206, 216, 221).

He lived in Duxbury, and after 1723 in Lebanon, Connecticut, and was one of the organizers, in 1730, of the Goshen Church of Lebanon. He married, June 30, 1709, Martha Delano, 'daughter of John and Mercy (Peabody) Simmons', and widow of Ebenezer Delano. Her grandmother, Elizabeth (Alden) Peabody, was the daughter of John and Priscilla (Mullins) Alden, of the "Mayflower." Issue of Samuel (2) and Martha West: Amos, born May 29, 1710; Nathan, of whom further; Sarah, born November 8, 1712; Moses, born March 4, 1716. .....

John and first wife Elizabeth had no children.
John and his second wife Mercy (or Mary) had 12 or 13 children.
Based on analyzing the dates, it appears that some of the children I found are duplicates so I have not put them on the tree. Also confusion about the wives. Mercy and Mary may be the same person. I have found records indicating he had five wives but it appears they are all version of Mary Mercy with different spelling of her maiden name.
