NOTE: Her death date is also seen as 1661 but why then is 'my dear wife Elizabeth' listed in her husband John Bates' will dated 1666? Her death date is also given as March 30, 1701 which makes sense. Her birthdate is unconfirmed. More research is needed.

Disconnected as daughter of Captain Isaac Winston, Sr.
She is listed as with a maiden name as possibly Winston, but with the following note:
"John BATES b1598 England, d 1666 York Co, VA m Elizabeth ?WINSTON d/o Isaac. This info. from BATES family history in Libr.) William WINSTON wtns will of John BATES datd 21 Sep 1666 DW etc 4, p.165 It isn't proven that Elizabeth was a WINSTON. The fact that William WINSTON was Witness doesn't establish that she was a WINSTON."
Most sources give John Bates wife as Elizabeth Winston who d. 30 Mar 1701. Other sources say there is no documentation of this. The Meacham Family website says that William Winston marr. Sarah Dabney b. 1596 and had Elizabeth.\? b. 1605 marr. York Co., Pa. and had George Bates who marr. Mary Smith. From the site Seventeeth Century Colonial Ancestors-Members of the National Society of Colonial Dames 1915-1976, copiled by Mary Louise Marshall Hutton, Genealogical Pub. Co., Baltimore, Md. 1984. Pg 18: Bates, John Bates: Elizabeth Winston, landowner.
WHICH WINSTONS? «u»There is much disagreement about Elizabeth:«/u» Most sources give John Bates wife as Elizabeth Winston d. 30 Mar 1701. Others say that there is no documentation of this & that he was not married to her. Webmaster of The Bates Family of Old Virginia «i»bfoov.org«/i» says that «u»Elizabeth Daniel was the wife of John II«/u», the uncle of our ancestor John who m. Hannah Tindall.

Another date of death for her is 1661...which would be strange, as she is mentioned in her husband's will of 1666.
--------------------------------
Another source (Meacham Family website)says that William Winston b. 1584 m. Sarah Dabney b. 1586 had Elizabeth? b. 12 Aug 1605 m.York Co., Va. had son George Bates m. Mary Smith...
