Matthew Strickland, III was born in 1702 in Isle of Wight County, Virginia, Colonial America. His parents were Matthew Strickland, II and Ann Braswell Strickland.

Matthew married Martha Strickland. Together they had the following children: Elizabeth (Strickland) Robbins, (atDna Vetted in 2016 and 2018); William Abner Strickland.

He died in May 1790 in Nash County, North Carolina, United States.
