Does anyone know anything about the parentage of William Howard? He was married to Elizabeth Dacre, I believe. He came over to America in the Big Migration in the 1620's. I believe he had a son named James.

Leona - have you tried searching for his profile on Geni? Chances are good it already exists - and any facts or theories about his parents may be noted. Be careful though, there is likely more than one Great Migration era arriver in New England with that name, and many arrivers parents are not known.

,Erica,

I have done research on Ancestry and they tell me that Robert of Syon (Howard) was William's father. I just keep trying to confirm it. I have tried on Geni, but not lately. Thanks for the advice.

If you have an ancestry.com then query the Great Migration database. If you find and post a link to the Geni profile I'll be happy to do that for you.

Thank you for your kind offer. Erica, I have found him on a list of passengers. I just didn't go through my paperwork to get it out when I posted. I am confused as to his father being Rober of Syon. That is what I have been told on Ancestry, but I was hoping for more confirmation, by someone who had used a different source. I have found conflicting information elsewhere.

Hi Leora

Is it all possible for you to provide a little more information about the query? If you use google "Geni William Howard" you should find the Geni profile - and then copy & paste the link into a message. I feel like I'm working blind :(. Help me see!

Hi Erica, Thank you so much for your help. This what I know. I know he came over in the Great Migration. Found my print with his name on it, but it was page 2 and I couldn't find page 1 with the ships name at the moment. (You should see how many papers and notes I have!) I know he was married to Sarah Gardiner/Gardner and they were both born around 1600. One place I have 1598 for him. His son was Henry who married Sarah Stone and Henry was born in 1623 and died in1708. Sarah was born in1625 and dies in 1715. They had a son named John, 1661-1721. They lived in Wethersfield, MA atleasrst the first few generations over here. On Ancestry they tell me he is the son of Sir Robert Howard of Syon. I have seen other places no mention of William. (I am 65 and my dad used to tell me when I was a girl that we were descended from the Earl of Suffolk. I hadn't thought of that for years til on got on Ancestry, ) Thanks again.

Hi Leona

OK, now I know what you're talking about a bit more. This is what I have so far:

Here's your Henry Howard "merged" profile: Henry Howard

He's showing as my 8th great aunt's father, by the way.

As far as I can see, his parents are unknown - at least I'm not seeing any records for it. But he's mostly known for owning a lot of land in Hartford and having a famous minister for a brother in law. :)

He immigrated to America WITHOUT known family presumably as an apprentice malster (beer maker).

Here's the profile for Sir Robert Howard, Kt. (Robert Howard of Syon House)

His pedigree is presumably well known - and so would his children be? (I have not researched it).

So I take it there are trees that have Henry "the Malster" Howard as the great grandson of the Duke of Norfolk through a William Howard & Sarah Gardiner?

Seems a little unlikely to me. Did you see any evidence from good sources like NEGHS in these trees?

Erica, Thank you for the new info. I don't know about NEGHS yet. I just thought that since he was listed as the youngest, maybe he just left. Or maybe he left without permission or something. Thanks for looking into this.

Leona
