I notice that you found the baptism of the son Torjus on familysearch.org, giving us the location Evje, Aust-Agder, Norway.

Try finding the original document for that since it includes more text like the name of the godparents, which usually are family.

The name "Halverson" seems to be an Americanism, probably one of the famous Ellis Island renames - the name on Torjus' baptism is "Halvorsen", which is because his father was named Halvor.

Have you found the records on when this branch emigrated to the US?

Unfortunately the Familysearch record for Torjus is wrong - it gives his baptism date as 13 sept 1850, and that was a Friday. The church books for that time at Evje ( http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=793&idx_id=79... ) show baptisms on the 15th, but not on the 13th. Neither is there a Torjus born on the 13th.

So I guess the year is wrong. Still searching.

I'm admitting defeat for today. I haven't been able to find Dena in census records before she married Charles' father either.
Any records you have covering her would be wonderful!

You will se that the batchnumber starts with an I and not the common C (Christening) or M (Marriage).

And at the bottom it is written: item p 280, which usually means that the information is on page 280 in the source.

So when opening page 280 in the possible source, you will find his confirmation as number 10: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=793&idx_id=79... He's living on the farm Kleveland.

It say that Torjus is born on a farm in Bykland, but I didn't find him in the churchbooks for Bykland either, so I widened my search and found a candidate in Valle which is further up the valley, nr. 58 baptized in Hylestad church: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=835&idx_id=83...

Targeir, born Sept. 13th 1850, bap: Sept 22nd. Parents: Farmer Halvor Knuds. Ryssestad and Wife Mari Targeirsdtr.

I entered your links into the profiles, and searched a bit - I have two candidates for the baptism of Mari Targeirsdatter, both in Setesdal. Common pair of names in those days!

Most of what I was able to piece together on Charles Schulz came from this biography I skimmed through quickly yesterday. Then I tried to suppliment it with familysearch. I'm afraid It doesn't have a lot of sources I could attach.....besides the book.

Halvor Knudsen isn't relevant, because we know he died in Norway. I've tried searching the registry of emigrants from Kristiansand, but did not find them. If you can figure out from the biography when Torjus/Targeir and Anna Sophie emigrated, and if they married before or after emigrating, that wold help a lot in searching.

According to the biography (the book listed above that I added a link to) "Dena's father Torjus Halverson had been brought from Norway as a small child in 1866. The family had no money and lived with relatives in Martell, a farming town in Wisconsin."

Is it possible that the Evje Torjus is someone else?

The father of Dena got Halvorsen as a family surname when he arrived US. In Norway he was Torjus Olsen Veum = Torjus, son of Ole, from Veum. His parents were Ole Halvorsen and Aasne Torjusdatter. They emigrated from Veum in Fyresdal, Telemark in 1866.

I have now changed Dena's father, moved all the children over, and disconnected the other Halvor.
