Geni says John Lacklund was my 10th great-grandfather. Phooey! This is based on a very loose assumption that Mary Brewster's (of the Plymouth "Mayflower" landing) unknown father was married to a woman that came from the Thomas Wentworth family. None of this is proven and some scholars have stated it's highly unlikely. It would be great if a family bible or papers were discovered to prove this line.

Well John Lackland, king of England is my 21st great grandfather in one line.

Donald, I'd also question the fact that Geni shows him as your 10th ggf as your ancestors either bore children in their old age, or a few generations are missing. He's my 23rd ggf.

And
actually, Ellinor Whitney is Not a Certified AND Verified BRAY. But just Above her AND her Husband John, her Father in Law was married to Ellinor's Mother in Law Mary Bray wife of Thomas Bray, IS Verified as a legitimate Bray. AND this Fact, therefore, only minorly, influences My paths through These lines, as they BOTH follow through Sir John Bray.
*one can See "my Whitney Notes* under their respective - About Me- BIOS.

John Lackland, King of England is my 24th great grandfather. Of course, it always shows the closer ones. Also related in a few other lines with one, for example, showing him as my 25th great grandfather. I love this website. Getting to see long distant relatives that I never knew I ever had. Of course, everyone is related in one way or another, but it's interesting to see how everyone is related as well.

Not thrilled about it but I am also connected to him a couple of ways. I can get to King Henry the 2nd and so on , also via William Longspree, illegitimate son. I like that way better. John Lackland was not a nice peson. Well you can't pick your real relatives can you?

Thanks everyone for the comments. One path didn't convince me, but now I see others.

@and John I Lackland is my 22nd great grandfather through 3 of his children; Henry III of England & Isabella of England, children with wife Isabella of Angouleme, and through daughter Joan Plantagenet, whose mother was Clemence, John's mistress, or common-law wife.
Hi cousins! We meet, once again!

Best regards,
Your cousin in Charlotte,
