From Dick Eastman at http://blog.eogn.com/2014/06/05/new-season-of-who-do-you-think-you-... :

Cynthia Nixon and Rachel McAdams are among those featured on the new season of Who Do You Think You Are? The 48-year-old Sex & the City actress and 35-year-old The Notebook star will have their heritage explored in the new season of the popular television show.

The series will return to TLC for a second season next month. The upcoming episodes also feature Valerie Bertinelli (One Day at a Time), Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Modern Family), Lauren Graham (Gilmore Girls), Kelsey Grammer (Cheers, Fraiser) and Rachel’s sister Kayleen McAdams. Past stars include Sarah Jessica Parker, Brooke Shields, Tim McGraw and Vanessa Williams.

The new season of Who Do You Think You Are? premieres July 23 on TLC.

I will try to find an episode order list in advance like last year.

Started Cynthia Nixon

Help needed, pile on ...

Cynthia Nixon is Lieut. William Reeve fifth great granddaughter.

Ruth Adkins (Reeves) would you mind looking over the Reeves side of the tree? There might be more connections in your tree also - Cynthia Nixon's Nixon's were in Crawford, MO.

Would love to see Geni do good on this one.

I wonder if Cynthia knows how she is related to her former co-star?

Happy to look into it

Yes we are connected and Crawford and Iron Counties are where a lot of my family come from.
I also noticed Daggetts in her family line this name is in my moms family tree also.

Great! That suggests I did it right. :). If there are any interesting stories to fill in the profiles in these lines, that would be helpful.

Dick Eastman now confirms the season will only last for six episodes. No real news beyond that, but good to know.

I am of course curious about what's up with stressing the inclusion of a sibling. We haven't seen that yet.

The teaser for the July 23 premiere episode:

"...the new Season 5 of Who Do You Think You Are? begins on July 23 when actress Cynthia Nixon explores the history of her father’s side of the family, which reveals an ancestral mystery of deceit and murder."

Think we can figure out the murder angle?

Also, not very useful, but the obituary for (No Name)'s stepmother Wilma Elizabeth Grammer:

http://obits.nj.com/obituaries/starledger/obituary.aspx?page=lifest...

I've asked Amanda to let us know if there's anything she wants done with him at all...the one claimed relative I find is inactive (2 years), so who knows.

*step-grandmother

I watched the teaser clip for the Cynthia Nixon episode and got from it a close up on a document: State of Missouri vs Martha Castro

Google gives me

Gendered justice. "As early as 1844, a citizens petition asked for the release of Martha Castro, who had just given birth in a prison ..."

I'm starting to look around here in her tree

Rev. Samuel Nixon

Here's the teaser clip if eagle eyes can spot more clues ....

To answer Ashley's question about the "ax murderer" in Cynthia Nixon's family, we found

Martha Mary Curnutt

Her 3rd great grandmother. However Martha Mary Curnutt & I and others do "not" believe Noah B. Casto was the father of Mary Martha Nixon Cynthia Nixon's 2nd great grand mother.

What do you think?

There is a great book - eyewitness account - that mentions Martha's treatment in prison. Warning: it's graphic, and tragic.

In preparation for Jesse Tyler Ferguson this week... It sounds like there will be at least a mention of his great-grandfather, Jesse Wheat Uppercu, for whom he is named. One interesting fact about him is that he was acquitted of murdering his aunt in 1873. The promos also say that Jesse's great-grandfather "embarked on an ambitious gold expedition across the Klondike," but I don't know if that is the same person or not.

Aha... It appears he is the same guy. Found this in the St. Paul Globe, 17 Feb 1898. (Apologies for the bad OCR)

The Alaska Klondike Co-operative

as wealthy a small company as has
passed through St. Paul.
Their organization is quite unique.
The members are all well-to-do men
from New York, Philadelphia, Brook

The party was organized by J. W.

I just discovered that Lauren Graham is no longer the featured guest this week. Any idea what happened? And how they suddenly had an episode profiling Minnie Driver all ready to go?

Geoffrey David Trowbridge,

They most likely got the episode from the UK version.

Kevin

Aha... I'm sure you're right. She was featured on the BBC in 2013, and is probably the actress from that season most well-known on this side of the pond.

Although... If they're pilfering from the UK episodes, I'm a little surprised they didn't choose J.K. Rowling (2011) or Martin Freeman (2009).

I don't think the question was answered as to why Lauren Graham is no longer featured. Does anyone know?

Private User,

That we will never know. Maybe they are going to be doing another season and want her as the first episode.
