il fut nommé, par le duc de Bedford, gouverneur du chateau. Geôlier de Jeanne d'Arc, il se porta à plusieurs excès sur elle. On peut dire qu'il résume en sa personne les haines de l'armée et les rancunes de ses compagnons battus par une jeune fille. Il entretint la terreur qui pesa sur Rouen pendant le procès et répandit l'effroi au milieu du timide clergé normand. De nombreux témoignages accusent sa violence et sa passion. Il mourut, lui aussi, à Rouen, en 1439, dans ce château de Bouvreuil où Jeanne avait tant souffert.
