That person was a Geni User so you have to report the profile deceased
http://help.geni.com/entries/20470882-How-do-I-report-a-profile-as-...
Once again rvk who hides behind initials and won't show his name, conned Kevin Lawrence Hanit into making private profiles public. Kevin had already been asked to do this before, illegally. All persons taking part in this exercise should remember that Geni rules changed recently. A family can choose to keep their tree, or part of their tree, private. rvk previously got Kevin to make all my grandparents, their siblings and spouses public. We did not want this. rvk is not related to us in any way. We don't understand why he wants to know all about us. We feel we are being stalked by him. he has already been reported to Geni many times. This is a most unpleasant experience. He should work on his own tree and leave others alone. Anybody who is asked to make private profiles public by him should consider whether this is appropriate.
being stalked by me? you're being hysterical Hinckel. i'm not interested in your family.
we're talking about people who lived in the 18th century. what's so damn private about them? IMO at least ALL 18th century profiles and before should be public by default.
Mike Stangel at some point you yourself said that someone would have a hard time explaining to you that a profile before 1850 should be private
Now rvk has created a profile and called it GFY Hinckel which I take to be Go F%$& You. Could somebody please ask Geni to remove him as a user? This is an intolerable insult. 666 My grandparents were born in the turn of the 20th century, not in the 18th century. I have been harassed by rvk for years now. The main reason earlier profiles were made private is because rvk made changes to them, which were not correct, not called for, unnecessary.
Go Find Yourself Hinckel
I asked Kevin if he could make this profile (and his spouse's)
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=116344179
public.
the info is readily available on the internet. that's all i asked.
they are not your grandparents.
if a profile is a private one can never tell if it concerns a zombie or not that's why i present them here.
that's all
For what it is worth, i have found rvk to be a helpful and cooperative collaborator. I hope that these angry exchanges can cease and harmonious collaboration ensue.
For what it is worth, i find it inconceivable that someone could wish to make the profile of a deceased person "private."
This is an issue that goes far beyond Geni. As a long-time contributor to Wikipedia, i also agree to abide by the Wiki "Biographies of Living Persons" (BLP) accord, and i maintain the same standards here, as does rvk, to the best of my knowledge.
Once individuals have passed into history, their social security records (for example) go public, and after that, there is no logical reason that family members can require "privacy" for them, here or at Wikipedia. I have seen the same type of proprietary suppressing of biographical data about the dead attempted at Wikipedia, but invariably, as long as language neutrality is maintained and all data is properly sourced, the biography of a deceased person will be expanded to contain material previously held back under the "BLP" rules.
Just my two cents ...
For your information: I am the originator and sole creator of the information which I researched for many years and at great personal expense - the information was handed down by word of mouth and there are no paper records for the earlier generation. RVK originally copied photos of my ancestors from Findagrave without asking me. When I asked him to remove them, he refused. I was even told I had no copyright. I explained that these were photos taken of oil paintings in my possession and the photos were new and not over the 70 year copyright limit. He refused again. Maybe I should never have made the Findagrave pages, maybe I should never have added the photos. I objected to the reaction to a fully reasonable request. Other changes were made to profiles, with errors. There was no need to change them. That is the main reason why I changed the profiles to private. Time and again RVK has asked curators to make my near relatives public profiles. Over a number of years he repeatedly does this. It's like an attack. This has been a most unpleasant experience. All of a sudden I get messages saying there has been a change to my grandparents, their siblings, all their in-laws and children. The change is: a curator has made them all public. Sometimes the curator says he was just trawling through his "area" of Geni (???) but the audit trail is clear, and public: RVK asked him to do this. The dishonesty makes it even worse. Then, a few months later, RVK creates a new profile for a person he has not researched, is not related to in any way, and asks a curator to merge it with a profile so he can gain access. That is simply devious. And it's the same curator again, who replies he didn't know it was one of mine. In the text, I even wrote the life story, and that I was the one who wrote it. This is a about principles. I am the first to acknowledge that RVK has done a great deal of work on Geni for which everyone is very grateful. I tried to communicate with him but he blocked my mails so I can't do that one-to-one. The world is full of enough problems and disputes. I pay my Geni membership fees and I don't want this as part of the product. If RVK can commit to stopping this nonsense, I would be very happy. Not only for my sake. I have never hear d the expression "find yourself". I know who and where I am.
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=gfy I really do not like that my ancestor has been married to a profile made by RVK called RVK Hinckel. This remains in the record of Revisions on the profile and I am unable to delete it. It is a gross insult to the memory of my ancestor and to all his descendants. If RVK does not remove this name from the profile, a complaint will be filed with the Dutch Police.
- The profile 666 has been reported as a fake to Geni CS through the actions menu
- re: photographs from FindAGrave
They are usually within copyright. The intent of a contributor to that site is that they have permitted it for that site. Of course it may end up copied, but it is still the intellectual property of the photographer.
Personally I remove (de tag) from public profiles on request. I think that a better practice than arguing about it.
rvk's behavior surrounding the fake profile is inexcusable and he will deal with Customer Service regarding that.
I did give the curators guidance that they should feel comfortable making public profiles for people born more than about 150 years ago -- I think it would have to be an extraordinary circumstance for there to remain privacy concerns about people who lived so long ago. We do not make profiles private in order to prevent vandalism or even erroneous, good-faith edits; that's what source citations are for. Show me someone making changes that contradict properly-cited facts, and we'll take that person to task. Telling us you know what's right and another user doesn't, gives us no basis on which to judge the facts. Private User, I don't believe the profile for Elyakim Gottschalk Sieradzki should be private, unless there's more to this story than you've already stated?
I believe that most photographers of headstones would (and should) be happy with being given credit for a photo, which would ideally include any and all pertinent genealogical information that is correct.
Any family photos posted in the public internet arena (on F.A.G. or otherwise) are of course always going to be subject to being "borrowed", and we can only continue to hope that those who borrow "our" photos for their own use are at least capable of being polite, courteous, and respectful when doing so.
Maksim Pavlenko,
1-The person who manages Christiane Legrand has been an active Geni user for many years.
2-The profile of Christiane Legrand is in an unconnected family tree; not connected to the Geni World Family Tree.
3- If the manager had abandoned his family tree I would merge the duplicates.
4-I think it would be better if you ask Private User if he would like to have his profiles merged and connected to the "Geni World Family Tree"
