This book mention Lucretia Lanier and Nicholas Lanier as the parents of Clement Lanier. (p.563) Who is then said to have a son named Nicholas (.p565-566). This is all giving me a headache though.

Erica Howton curates and Private User has worked with me and Erica on Huguenot families, especially those who went to the South.
- added a "sic: wife unknown" annotation to the top of the "overview"
- I took "Thomas" out of the middle name field. People from England at this period did not have middle names & I see no supporting reference for it
- I would agree his wife should be designated as N.N.
- Martin's link looks good as a guide. It would be nice to get some primary sources going.
- Just post here with anything a curator can do for y'all.
@ Erica I agree. Though I don't know how the different spellings for Lucretia came about, it seems clear that the daughter of Anthony Bassano and wife of Nicolas Lanier got added to John Thomas "the Immigrant" as his wife.
I have been looking for a passed-along music gene in my own family tree, so I've been more interested in the Lanier and Bassano lineages.
It would be nice to know the true name for John Thomas's wife though.
@Erica. Appears this is an older thread but I wanted to comment. John Lanier "the Emmigrant" according to my own records was born in 1631. He married Lucreece Katherine “de Bazán” or Bassano. Lucreece is a Latino spelling of the English Lucretia. She and her family were originally from Spain but fled due to the Inquisition and decided on the rich fertile area of Bassano del Grappo in Veneto or Venice Italy. Lucreece was born in England due to the great invitation of King Henry VIII who wanted the Bassano's in his court for his wife. The Bassano' originally used as their last name "de Ponte" but Jeronimo Bassano born 1490 adopted the surname from the area of Italy from which he was born as it was called Bassano del Grappa, Vicenza, Veneto, Italy. This family was rich in many ways. Master Kabbalist, Master Musician's, Master Teachers, Physician's, Luthiers and one of Jeronimo's granddaughters wrote many of the sonnets of William Shakespeare. John Lanier's son married Sarah Edmunds. John Lanier I married Lucreece Bassano. They were Jewish.

This by the way is the Lucretia / Lucreece Lanier referred to, she’s the immigrant’s grandmother, not his wife. An eminent family in Italy & England.
Here’s from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthony_Bassano
Anthony Bassano was a 16th century Italian musician.
Bassano, born in Bassano del Grappa, Italy, was one of six sons of Jeronimo Bassano (Anthony, Jacomo, Alvise, Jasper, John and Baptista) who moved from Venice to England to the household of Henry VIII to serve the court, probably in 1540. Of his ten children, the five sons (Mark Anthony, Arthur, Edward, Andrea and Jeronimo) all served as musicians to the court of Henry VIII, and a daughter (Lucreece Bassano) married Nicholas Lanier the Elder, grandfather of the artist-musician Nicholas Lanier.
