The most interesting question about books we read (on a family history website) is why we read those books in particular. We have enjoyed books on the Jewish mafia, and those Jews that fought back, and recently found the Holocaust memoirs of a guy who was deported with the same work detail as my wife's father. Her father (who was occasionally mentioned in it) spoke little of the experience, but the book brought back to her many little snippets of info about those times that until then had remained dormant in her subconscious.

Although not actually a book, in the Mahler collection held in the archives of Yale university USA are the letters of Gizella Czettel. Gizella survived WW2 and wrote every week to her friend Margit S Mahler in the USA, pleading for anything, just in order to survive. Together they make a powerful and most informative document relating to those times.
