Hello! :)

Since we already have two large projects for American clergy, and this project only has one profile, would it make sense to put that profile into one of the other projects and then delete this one?

Existing projects:

- Colonial American Ministers (641 profiles): https://www.geni.com/projects/Colonial-American-Ministers/13900

- American Ministers (post-Colonial) [273 profiles]: https://www.geni.com/projects/American-Ministers-post-Colonial/18071

(Tagging Mark Edwin Guest since he created this project.)

I'm bumping this conversation back up. Any thoughts?

Please feel free to do whatever is best for documentation purposes.

Erica Howton and John Albert Rigali -- I'm following up on a really old post and bringing you in since it look like you're the (only?) people actively adding people to this project.

The project creator has since left it but previously gave his blessing to change the objective here, seeing as it was redundant (see above).

I'm wondering it we should actually turn it into a U.S. religion portal instead, seeing as we could actually use that due to the number of scattered projects we have with no central home. Not just clergy -- all the random adherent ones, specific churches, movements, seminaries, etc.

Thoughts? And then we'd of course pull these profiles out and put them in their proper spots, which it looks like most of them already are (like it seems a majority already are in the colonial and post-colonial ministers projects, for example).

"U.S. Religion Projects" or something (I'd rather avoid "Religious"; different connotation :)). And make it a subportal of the USA Portal.

I think it could work! And be useful. But obviously, I want your input since you're using it.

Good idea. But Religions (plural); U.S. Religion could be read as the religion of the USA. :)

I had been using Colonial Ministers and Post Colonial Ministers, and the Clergy project for other religions. I just noticed "American Clergymen" recently.

"U.S. Religious Projects Portal" could be a good option that avoids the two issues that make "U.S. Religious Portal" and "U.S. Religion Portal" less than desirable. I know we don't usually put "projects" in the name of a project, but it would make sense here for grammatical reasons.

I'll start compiling a list of projects we could include, should we move this direction. (Would still like to hear from John.)

I like "Religious Projects." That could include more esoteric or limited religions than we usually think of, such as The Brownists.

Its a lot of profiles to move over though and to where? Post Colonial Clergy? Perhaps Geni could do it for us.

And maybe update "Post Colonial Ministers", the original project, to "American Clergy." That would be more inclusive, which I think we need.

The "objective" and "about" for https://www.geni.com/projects/American-Ministers-post-Colonial/18071 would need to be updated, but I think it should be. And the project is already over 1,000 profiles, as well as being the original. So it would make sense to fold "American Clergymen" into it.

It's not too many -- most are already in the right ones, either pre- or post-. I can chip away at it to make sure they're in the right spots.

I actually don't mind the timeline division we've had going...the sources are different to work with, plus people are so used to them at this point.

Sorry for coming to the party so late!

What is the intended project scope? An umbrella for all U.S. -affiliated religion projects?

Correct. And then not add profiles, just use it as a portal.
