This William Compton, his birthdate, his birthplace, belong to the Monmouth County Compton line - not the Woodbridge Compton line. These families are distinct. We don't know any siblings for William, jr, b. c. 1644 in Gravesend. We definitely know he is NOT the son of William Compton of Woodbridge and Mary Wilmot., but we definitely know he IS the son of William "Weilleum" Compton of Gravesend, NY, who said he was born in 1622 in England.  https://familysearch.org/search/catalog/oclc/866755825?availability...  Here is a link to downloadable PDF copies of every issue of Comptonology where these family lines are clearly explained. This William Jr.'s children are Richard, Cornelius, William, Jacob and Judith Compton Devell, of the Monmouth compton line.

My family research mirrors that of Deborah Compton's notes. This should be corrected.

I’ve created a new father profile

William Compton, of Gravesend

Please fill in details as best you know & I’ll lock it up after.

Thank you for calling attention.

Who were the parents of Manessah Compton

Mary Compton Is the Woodbridge family, I am moving over children now that belong to her.

Do we know the parents of Mary Whitlock

Thank you for the edits! I've added the remaining info I have on Weillium Compton. Unfortunately, I do not have any info on Manessah Compton or Mary Bray. I will be sure to let you know if I run into anything on them.

I've been merging also, and this profile came in as father of William who married Mary Bowne.

Any validity or should I disconnect ?

Sir William Compton

I think Mary Bray is a mystery that can't currently be solved.

The profile notes have Mary Compton born 1667 as a child of Mary Bowne, I presume this is the one who married Caleb Campbell & lived in Woodbridge. Should the notes be amended ?

An additional note is here

William Compton, father of Richard Compton, born circa 1644 married Mary Bowne born circa 1645 had the following children:

Juda Compton (Judith) born circa 1666
Richard Compton born circa 1667
Cornelius Compton born circa 1669
Jacob Compton born circa 1685

They may have had other children but these are the only ones I've been able to confirm.

The Sir William Compton should be disconnected. For Weillium's son William, whom married Mary Bowne, they had the following children:

Juda (Judith) Compton (b.1666 in Middletown, NJ - d. 1733 in Long Island, NY) married to Unknown Devill in 1689

Mary Compton (b. 1667 - d. 1735)

Cornelius Compton (b. 1669 - d. Jan 14 1758) married to Jean Stout (b. 1678)

Richard Compton (b. 1673 - d. 1709) married to Providence Isselstyne (b. 1674 - d. 1702)

There is a possible Jacob Compton (b. 1681 - d. 1753), but I have not been able to confirm yet. He would have been born after the death of Mary Bowne.

My hope is to ultimately find out if Weillium Compton came from the Royal Compton line, but left due to religious persecution or some other family issue. There are rumors that he could be the son of Henry Compton and Lady Cecily Sackville, but according to Collin's Peerage of England (Vol. 3) all 3 sons of Henry died without a male lineage. Hopefully DNA will make the link one day.

OK, take another look if you would be so kind. Should Jacob be assigned an NN mother and a note he’s unconfirmed, or disconnected with a link back to possible father ?

I have Jacob Compton in my tree with an unknown mother for now, but since this is a shared tree it may be best to leave him out until more proof is found. Thanks Erica!
