Geni has been here since... 2007?

A lot of people obviously find it hard to believe that someone could have listed old, historic profiles from a thousand +/÷ years ago during almost a decade since the beginning of this web site.

It's truly frustrating to see that so many people neglect to search for such old profiles before they're entering long, long lines of duplicates!

Tonight I started with what seemed to be just a few merges. But the further I got, the deeper in the worm hole i found myself.

At this moment, THIS profile is listed with 4 fathers!! And the 4 fathers are very likely one and the same person. With NEW lines of duplicates to merge...

And there were even more duplicates to THIS profile (Raginpert/Reginpert) than the ones I merged tonight, but I need a little break now, as my head has started to spin. :-P

I hereby welcome any input and/or help from managers and curators. :))

Yes, indeed. Many of the medieval lines are like this. New users come in with a burst of enthusiasm and enter long strings of duplicates without any sources or any expertise in the area. It's just stuff they copied from somewhere.

I did some light clean up here, but in general it's not worthwhile trying to maintain these old lines. You can be pretty sure this one will be messed up again within a month or two.

Thanks Justin. That was a speedy clean up... Awesome! :)

A simple search om "Lombards" shows duplicates in most of those profiles, if you should care to do more. ;))

I promise I'll do more -- as soon as Geni introduces relationship locking ;)

Also; Raginpert is now listed as

1) Father of Aripert II de Turin, Duke
2) Brother of Aripert II, King of the Lombards

I suspect these two should be merged into one person, at least by name (-not by relationship).

I thought so too, but a quick check shows he appears in online sources in both positions. It's a virtual certainty then that fixing it now will just look like an invitation for someone to add the "missing" Aripert back in the other position. I know I sound pessimistic, but I just don't think it's worth fixing problems like that when it means someone will have to fix it every month for eternity.

If you feel like taking on the problem, the answer is easy -- check
