Please see Darrell Wolcott: Constans I and His A.D. 343 Visit to Britain; http://www.ancientwalesstudies.org/id131.html. The article does a great job of showing what has happened in these genealogies, and posits that Antonius (Anwyn Dynod) was not the son of the Maxen Wledig, known here as Magnus Maximus, but the son of another man referred to as Maxen. He was Maxentius, son of Emperor Maximianus Herculius, c. 279, which would place Anwyn Dynod a c. 302.
Anne Brannen Hello again. I am going back to try and clean up these old discussions. As yet nothing has been done to resolve the issues.
Anne Brannen Since you asked, there is this one. But I don't think Bartrum will help you much with it.
Silly me. My Bartrum notes were already there.
Jason Scott Wills -- You are the curator on this profile, and recently changed the birth date to about 70 years later than it was, which now makes total sense, given the dates on his father.
But!
Now his son's dates make no sense.
What do you think of Wolcott's idea that the Maxen given as his father in the Genealogies is the wrong Maxen?
the chronology is simply not working.
Anne Brannen...High time this was rectified. Various profiles are locked so I can not do it, so I leave it to you at your leisure.
I have managed to attach St. Ellen ( Ellen verch Eudaf Hen) as the wife of Maxentius, and I have corrected the DOB for Antonius (Anwn Dynod) and moved him as a child of Maxentius and Ellen. However, I have not been able to "divorce" Ellen from Maxen Wldeg , nor remove her as the mother of his other children. Anne Brannen please take a look and do what you can. After that we can discuss the difference between Sefera verch Maxen and Sefera vech Custinen, whom Wolcott thinks was the wife of Vortigern.
Anne Brannen I saw on another discussion that you wished to leave Maxen Wledig's parents as unknown at this time, which I am fine with. But the above issue still remains where Ellen verch Eudaf Hen remains attached to him as a wife and as the mother of his children...all of which is chronologically impossible.
Both Daryl Woolcott and Peter Bartrum have speculated not only with names but dates too.
Magnus Maximus, Western Roman Emperor, b. 340 in Spain, married Ceindrech fer Rheiden (2 children, Owain and Victor), married, Elen ferch Einudd (at least 7 children - one was Antonius Donatus Gregorous ap Mascen). Antonius born about 362. I have no spouse but do have offspring.
Elen ferch Einudd's parents are Eudaf Hen ap Einudd and Aurelia Carausia. Even my dates are a little spurious, but it's all I have currently.
Magnus is my 48th g/grandfather and Elen 48 g/grandmother.
