Project updated to define SM/Progs as only the eldest biological female settler.

So now also the indigenous SM ?

4 years later :-)
Yes, definitely - although they will just be the oldest women we have records of.

I seem to recall that the point of this, though, was that SM and Female PROG do not always coincide.

Yes to both.
Your ancestor?

Who?

Eva Kratoa ?

This Discussion was linked to the 'South African female Progenitors /Stammoeders' project.

Yes Eva Krotoa is my gr granny, but there wasn't an immediately obvious connection to this Discussion.

What does that strange and awful pic have to do with this discussion, Phillipp?

Old woman -- title of painting

Eva and others born in SA as SM or SM/ Prog not just settlers.
Should they also be SM/Prog or only as on top

Eldest biological female settler ?

Oldest women we have on project ?

Eva changed from SM/Prog to only SM.

To put slave ancestors in a separate project so quickly becomes separate but equal.
I believe that they are owed equal status to any "eldest biological female settler "

They belong here with full recognition as our Progenitors or Stammoeders / SM

Hmm - I see.
Eva isn't an SM because there aren't any V Meerhof / VdKaap/Everts grandchildren.

I'll restore her to PROG.

Your point about the slave ancestors is a good one. If you find any with descent lines that haven't been added here - please yell and I'll fix.

There seem to be a couple of attached profile designators that need a re-work:

eg Christina van de Caab, SM/Prog is not the SM of male children's surname descent line.
If she has grandchildren - which I think she does- then she is a PROG only.

Lea van de Caap shouldn't be attached to this project at all until we find a descent line.

With only a daughter, Jannetjie Marretje van de Kaap is a PROG, not an SM of a surname line.

Cornelia Pieterze van de Caab should be a PROG as well, unless we decide that her vdCaab surname is a clear indicator that she has a mother who is the PROG?

Without a descent line Louisa van de Caap, SM shouldn't be attached to this project or have any suffix at all.

So one mutual decision that needs to be made is whether a vdKaap surname can be designated a PROG - when it pretty much tells us that there is a NN slave mother who was actually the PROG.

I'd say yes, to avoid NN PROGS.

Not necessarily a slave mother .
Was EVA a slave ?

Eva Kratoa? No. I take your point > she has vdCaab children.
