Is this the same person, and if yes, please indicate wih literature sources.
Andrew Mowat of Hugoland

These profiles are the same but they belong to two different trees. Because there are a number of issues to resolve before an attempt is made to merge the trees, I would prefer if this and other associated profiles were left alone for the present.

Hugoland is noticed in a number of different spellings. Some follow:
Hougaland https://archive.org/stream/scotspeeragefoun06pauluoft#page/575/mode... 1623 Wester Hougoland, Howgoland and Howgaland 1624 Howgaland 1626 Howgaland 1627 http://www.vsnrweb-publications.org.uk/Orkney%20and%20Shetland%20re... Huguland 1631 http://mowatfamilyhistory.ca/ps02/ps02_291.htm

Thank you. I noticed your good documentation as for the several Christina Stewart and Grizel Stewart and their respective parents. Do you consider any measures or warnings in order for the two trees to be kept apart until everything is properly arranged and correct .. ?

By the way, in the western countryside Norwegian dialects, more resembling the old Norse language spoken previously in the Orkneys, haug or houg means hills. Thus Haugaland or the similar Hougaland means "hillside land".

I have not studied this family in any detail and, consequently, I cannot speak about them with any confidence. At first sight the differences between the two Mowat family trees seem to be minor ones. For example, I have added John Mowat of Hugoland to my Mowat family tree John Anderson Mowat of Hugoland and the alternative tree identifies the same person as John Mowat of Ollaberry John Anderson Mowat of Hugoland

This is an easy one to resolve but there are other more serious disagreements between the two trees. For example, I have identified Christian Stewart, the wife of the above mentioned John Mowat, as the illegitimate daughter of Robert Stewart, Earl of Orkney Christian Stewart and the alternative tree identifies her as the daughter of Sir Robert Stewart and Alice Cockburn Christian Stewart

There is potential disagreement too about the ancestry of Andrew Mowat of Hugoland, the father of the above mentioned John Mowat. I have not added a profile for his father to my version of the Mowat family tree, because I believe that his ancestry is unproven, but the alternative tree identifies Andrew Mowat of Hugoland as the son of Bertel Mowat of Balquholly Andrew (Anders) Mowat

John, he son of Andrew Mowat, was 'of Ollaberry' while his father was alive (Shetland documents 2, 281), and 'of Hugoland' after his father was dead (Shetland Documents 2, 541).

As for the spouse of John Mowat you are absolutely right that she was the natural daughter of Robert Stewart Earl of Orkney. Here are the primary sources to confirm: http://www-personal.umich.edu/~bobwolfe/gen/mn/m27741x27743.htm

Andrew Mowat's parents are not known. The names provided by later genealogies Bertell / Bartholomew Mowat and Barbara Sinclair, are not found in any contemporary sources, although heraldic evidence suggest a relationship to the Sinclair family, and the Mowats of Balquholly. Unless more evidence surfaces, however, it is not really possible to determine the parentage of Andrew Mowat with absolute certainty, although that does not seem to be the point with Geni anyway.
