There is Thomas Pettus mentioned in the records of the Virginia company of London.
As I understand dated 1620:
The names of the Adventurers with their severall summes adventured, paid to SIr Thomas Smith, knight, late Treasurerer of the Company of London:
....
Sir John Pettus 25 pounds
...
When 1620 is correct (see source) then this Thomas is probably the first immigrant and he was in Virginia about this time.
Or did he just spent his money?
What do you think?

I should read the context of the ledger more, but briefly I would interpret it as Sir John Pettus invested 20 pounds in the Virginia Company for their adventure. No reason to think he emigrated (or got his money back!). Which Sir John, the uncle?

A couple of points / questions for the profile presentation

From https://pettusheritage.wordpress.com/2016/11/07/misinformation-on-t...

(this is the author of the recent 2 volume Pettus book, and Mike Clarke's site extracts from the books also)

"Thomas’s emigration to Virginia followed his acquittal of a murder charge in England in 1629. By 1631, Thomas had disposed of his future interest in certain estates and departed for Virginia."

[so that would suggest he was indeed the first Pettus in America and, in context with your find, may have been representing family financial interests as well]

Thomas died in Holland in 1687.

I haven't yet found support for a title of Colonel but I've been working on cleaning up the more "upper" lines

From the overview on Thomas of James City, he wasn't the first to go to Virginia:

"Thomas apparently was preceded in Virginia by at least one sibling, his younger brother Theodore Pettus (b. c.1600), who arrived in 1623 in James City (Jamestown), but of whom nothing further is recorded."

@William Pettus. To clarify, Col. Thomas Pettus is the man whom King Charles I appointed to the Virginia Council of State or Governor's Council in 1641. He and the other members of the council gave themselves the rank of captain in 1643 and colonel in 1650. Thomas was in England until 1630 or 1631. He died after 1661.

His son, Thomas Pettus II, did not hold a military rank. He was described as an orphan in 1672. He married Mourning Burgh (not Glen) and died overseas in 1687

Can you add those notes to the overviews for the profiles ?

I am unsure what you mean by "overview for the profiles?" My purpose was to correct errors.

"notes in profiles" to prevent errors from occurring again because we now have some narrative and references.

For example (not suggesting you do this one, just explaining the thinking)

William Pettus

his profile overview is empty. It would be helpful that https://www.geni.com/profile/edit_about_me_lb/6000000003524039920 be used and information shared, as we locate it.
