Nicholas Wood born say 1620 arrived in 1638 in Braintree later moved to Dorchester, Medfield and Natick [Great Migration Directory 383]. His origins and parents are unknown. He married first Mary Pidge (or Pigg) (1622-1662) daughter of Thomas Pidge of Roxbury and his wife Mary Sothy [Great Migration Begins: Thomas Pidge 1465. Mary Pidge had been misidentified by earlier authors as Mary Williams which is wrong. The evidence is laid out in The American Genealogist 36:112, 36:117 and NEHGR 40:324 both available on AmericanAncestors.org. After Mary Pidge in 1662/3 died Nicholas Wood married second to Hannah (Unknown) widow of William Page who had died in 1664. She is thought to have married third to Edward Winn. Note I can't find any evidence for Hannah's maiden name. See NEHGR 48:457 for the will of Nicholas Wood and sources in Torrey 3:1710. He's also in Sherborn Hist.:261 and GMB 1465. But the best treatment I could find of him is in Waldo Chamberlain Sprague, Genealogies Of the Families of Braintree, Mass. 1640-1850s page 1943 published by NEHGR in 2001 which includes all the previously published updates to this family:
================
NICHOLAS1 WOOD married by 1642 or earlier Mary Pidge, daughter of Thomas Pidge of Roxbury as shown by the church records there. She died Feb. 19, 1662/3 at now Sherborn (Medfield V.R.) and he died there Feb. 7, 1669/70 (Medfield V.R.).
His will dated Jan. 16, 1669 "at my farm in Natick bounds" was proved Apr. 2, 1670. It mentions wife Anna "my now loving wife" and his children Jonathan, Eleazer, under age, daughters Abigail, Bethiah, Mehitable, now in their minority, daughter Mary Thurston, grand child Abraham Harding son of daughter Hannah

Harding deceased. Residue to six daughters and two sons, wife Anna. and John Thurston Jr. and Thomas Bass, both my sons in law, executors with friend George Barber of Medfield supervisor, and signed on 18th of 4th mo. 1669. (Register 48-457).

For the location of his homestead in Sherborn see History of Sherborn and Holliston by Rev. Abner Morse (1856).

His second wife Anna or Hannah was the widow of William Page of Watertown who died Dec. 9, 1664. On Nov. 16, 1665 widow Hannah Page made a marriage contract with Nicholas Wood of Boggestow with John Coolidge Sr. and Henry Bright as trustees of her property. After his death these trustees or feoffee? of the widow Annah Wood had a law suit with John Thurston of Medfield executor of Nicholas Wood's estate (See Bond's History of Watertown, etc.).

Did she m. 3rd Edward Winn of Woburn who d. 1682??? - F.A. Bates says so.

=========================================
Regarding the son Eleazer Wood: Eleazer Wood 1662-1704 married Dorothy (_____). Her maiden name is unknown and was not Babcock. Morse just made that up. See NEHGR 40:104, 41:24, 41:32 which you can access at AmericanAncestors.org with a subscription. Eleazer Wood 1662-1704 married Dorothy Unknown and after he died Dorothy married second to Capt John Ware 1646-1718. Eleazer Wood and Dorothy had only two children Abigail and Hannah. Hannah married Joseph Ware son of John Ware above - her step-brother. They had no daughter Dorothy as Morse assumed. The Dorothy who married John Ware was the widow of Eleazer Wood and not their daughter.

Proposed Edits:

Nicholas Wood, of Medfield

Remove Richard and Margaret Wood as parents and replace them with NN parents

There isn't much reason to think Nicholas Wood was born prior to 1620 place unknown.

Merge the wives until we are down to only two wives:

a) Mary Pidge
b) Hannah Unknown

RE Hannah:
Hannah ‘Ann’ Winn
Change her maiden name to Unknown

Disconnect all the children except for the 8 listed above. Yes, I know there are a lot of "Woods" out there whose origins are unknown. For example Dorcus (Wood) Phippen:

Dorcas Phippen

p 59 of the Phippen Genealogy published by NEHGS in 2017 shows that the origins Docus Wood are unknown. She needs some locked NN parents.

Eleazer Wood:
Eleazer Wood

Wife should be Dorothy ____ (Not Babcock)

Eleazer Wood and Dorothy have no daughter Dorothy:
Abigail Williams

This fabled Dorothy is actually the wife of Eleazer who as a widow married John Ware

Capt. John Ware

Who was father to the Joseph Ware to married their daughter hannah Wood.

I'm going to back up the "about" section below because it is mostly not correct and replace the text:

"Nicholas Wood, of Dorchester, Braintree, Medfield. Married first, about 1622, Dorothy. 2) Mary Pidge 3) Mary Williams 4) Anna (Hannah) Babcock."

I believe this is done except John Daniell, of Milton is now a mess

Erica Howton Thanks for splitting up the two Dorothys! You beat me to it :)

Looking up sources for John Daniell and will add them to his profile before editing...

Sprague, Waldo Chamberlain, Genealogies of the families of Braintree, Massachusetts, 1640-1850: including the modern towns of Randolph and Holbrook and the city of Quincy (Boston, Massachusetts: NEHGS, 2001) p 2003

Say he is possibly the son of Willaim1 Daniell but it isn't known for sure. I did find a baptism record in Braintree for John Daniel

Married 1st Mar. 29, 1672, Dorothy Badcock, born ____, died ____.
Married 2nd Abigail, died Nov. 9, 1717 [Abigail Scott according to Braintee records]

Children from Sprague, Waldo Chamberlain listed on the profile now.

Given that his parents aren't known for sure I think we should give him NN parents.

We can MP Dorothy (Babcock) Daniell:

Dorothy Daniell

But don't lock anything yet. I need to clean up the kids, etc.

I guess we had a bad smerge because Mary Chappell married John *Daniels* of CT:

MARRIAGE

DANIELS, John (-1709, 1710) & Mary CHAPPELL; 19 Jan 1664, 1664/5; New London {New London VR 55; New London Hist. 352; Gen Mag. 2:285; Converse (1905) 771; McIntire Anc. 140; Brainerd 2:41; Fulton Anc. 56; Holmes (,3) 26; Sv. 1:363; Daniel-Daniels (1920) 8

This John Daniell is a whole different guy. But unmerging them now would delete too much stuff so let's just create a new John Daniels.

We should MP these two so they are not merge again:

John Daniels of New London, CT
John Daniels, of New London
John Daniell of Milton
John Daniell, of Milton

I'm still sorting their kids.

MP’s done

Erica Howton

Relationships can not be locked on John Daniel of Milton. All his kids and wives are in order:

John Daniell, of Milton

Thanks for all your help!

We can almost lock:

John Daniels of New London, CT
John Daniels, of New London

But he did have these two kids:
Lucretia Daniels
Lucretia Tubbs
Maudlin Daniel
Maudlin Daniel

Where did they come from?

I'm very tempted to float Lucretia and Maudlin - I can't find them in any sources and they have no families. Seems like a typo. I think I've made a few of those myself :)

I think we have a solid root to the Wood tree!

Jacobus says in Families of Old Fairfield that Maudlin Daniel is in Misc - no idea where she came from so I'm floating her.

You can lock John Daniels of New London, CT
John Daniels, of New London

Lucretia didn't exist and all the other kids are vetted.

Roland Henry Baker, III All done. Thank you so much for this work.
