Are there any of the direct descendants of Hans Bogislaus Carstens that took a YDNA test?
The South African branch of the Carstens family tested as haplogroup R-M269
DNA tests will confirm if these two families are related.
Charmaine,
I assume you are first and foremost hunting data from the Y chromosome. To establish the family connection.
In Finland there are 44 males whose surname is Karsten. But I don't know a single one of them. I would very much like to know those, though.
(There are five or fewer people whose name is Carsten, and 12 males whose name is Carstens.)
So we can try to start hunting the data.
I know a female Karsten who is a direct descendant of Hans Bogislaus'. But while she is female, she might have even three male siblings. Chances are, she knows more Karstens, alive, kicking, and direct descendants of HBC. She would be Gunvor. We'll ask her first. How's that?
Best,
m
I sent a message to Gunvor. She can ever so often be absent from Geni for some while, so let's wait now for a small while.
But, Charmane, you have male Carstens DNA, right? If so, where did you have it analyzed first? I had my autosomal DNA analyzed at FamilyTreeDNA.
Actually, I have access to four people's DNA there, but they are not of Carstens, but Trups (https://www.geni.com/projects/Trup-Diaspora/43141). We ran tests to four families (Trup, Troop, Troupp) out of which 2 (or 3) are American, one British, and mine Finnish. But I had to get male Troupp DNA from a Finnish Troupp, and there are only four of those left.
I do have my autosomal DNA uploaded from FTDNA to Geni, MyHeritage, and that could be it. The Troupp DNA, I may have uploaded those samples to Gedcom, dna.land etc. Probably not my own. I no longer remember. I guess I might have uploaded my data to this Prometheus site... See what I die of... But it was utter nonsense.
So, it would be most welcome for the tree to get a South African branch, too. Let's see what we can do.
I only get a line like this, can you guys see this (https://imgur.com/ZmBHYuv). The trail leads to the right direction from Werner, but gets cold in 1674.
So DNA would be great but even greater would be to establish the entire line from Werner to Hans Bogislaus via Johannes Herrmann.
We'll get there.
Best,
m
