i am certain that elizabeth spencer did not marry william jr. 1615 and is not the mother of john who married jane holt.
also no proof that nicholas spencer had a daughter named elizabeth has been found.
i think she was mistaken for the elizabeth spencer who married william son of william and elizabeth cockcroft and was the sisterinlaw of john.

william jr. is the spouse of elizabeth spencer dau of nicholas. and brother of john who married jane holt. he moved to nc with his wife unlike john whose family was in va.
his son william iii was also in nc when he married elizabeth phillips.

john hancock who married jane holt dau of randall, was born in va. and lived in va. his whole life where his children were born and he was born before the marriage of his brother will to elizabeth spencer in nc. he cannot be the son of elizabeth spencer and is more likely the son of elizabeth cockcroft.

I have the book from 1931 called the Hopkins Families and Related Families of Virginia. Chapter Five is about these Hancocks we are searching for--I will post the info in this book later this week when I have time. In April, I hired a professional geneologist to research my John Hancock. father of my Benjamin Hancock (my DAR Patriot). She can't get past John Hancock married to Elizabeth Maddox. Our family lore was we were related to the William Hancock supposedly at Jamestown--but I can't prove this. Jamestown Society does not have him, and nor the Green Of Purse and Persons reference books.

My 4th great grandfather John D. Hancock of Goochland VA has not been proven to be related to the Holt/Hancock line of Jamestown. No one can find the Bible this information is supposdedly in and the DAR Achives does not have it nor Randolph Macon College.

John D. Hancock is a DAR Patriot, and so is his son Benjamin--Benjamin died near my relatives farm here close to Lebanon Tennessee and was buried nearby--my deceased Uncle was shown the grave when he was a teen, but it is lost. His will was probabted here in
Wilson County, TN. We can prove anyone above John D. Hancock.
