See http://wiki.geni.com/index.php/Master_Profile for a description of Master Profiles on Geni.

Before posting here, please check a few things:

- Please try your hardest to connect your profile to the tree (or at least a significant stand-alone tree)
- Please check https://www.geni.com/curators first to see if there's a specific curator who specializes in your area, to whom you should address your request
- Please make sure your profile is well-written with proper grammar and punctuation, and where possible, source citations.

Gale and others, you can shorten the space for family chains by back spacing x2 between you & that first arrow, then back space before each of the your, his/her relationship ... It will then look like it shows in the profiles. (You → Katrina Ann Graham your mother → Daisy Mae Williams her mother → Polly Ann (Brewington) Jackson etc.)

Parker Hays Can this be a Master Profile?

1/19/2019 at 11:18 PM

Private Done. Please resolve the conflicting data. Once that is done, advise if you’d like the data fields locked.

Thank you for this. The relationships will take a bit of time. The DNA Dectectives contractor direct to this line has since 2015 had the Non Parent Events worked out to Thompsons, Vanns, et. al and the information from the Jennie Thompson partnership as consort to Parker Hays would need to be un-disconnected.

Martin Van Buren Bates Can this be a Master Profile? Not that is has the quality of a Master Profile, but based on it was famous public figure. I do not understand why he got the name "van Buren", but very likely he got the or a royal name from a king as a gift.

Martin Van Buren was President of the US from 1837-1841, which matches the birth date of the "Giant." The Wikipedia stuff should be cited correctly and more sources should be added.

So is it better to remove the "van Buren" part from his birth name?

It is only a alias name that is given to him? He is "Van Buren Gaint"?

Mette, Geni allows immediate family to remove profile managers who are not related to the profile. I believe Geni's definition of "immediate family" is up to 4th great grandparents.

There are many reasons that people enter non family profiles into Geni - some people research a place or an event or a specific time or a surname.

If you put a link to the profile you are querying a curator can investigate the profile.

Hi Mette,
If someone on Geni is threatening you please
* block the person (go to their profile and click Actions and Block this user) - this will stop them from messaging you
* report them to customer service (go to their profile and click Actions and Report) - Geni takes this very seriously and will investigate the issue fully

You can also report a comment in a discussion which will go to customer service.

You can go to Geni help to look at Geni's terms and conditions and privacy.

In times where profile managers (on a profile that they co-share management of a profile) disagree and are involved in an edit war, you can request a curator to lock the profile to stop edits by any profile manager and to mediate any changes from that point on.

This would then require each profile manager to add sources for any changes that they want made and also to engage in a polite discussions about the source.

private,

You can send an email to misconduct@geni,com to report it. They will investigate and get back to you on it.

It was very common for people to name their sons after presidents. There doesn't appear to be a mistake in his name. Martin Van Buren Bates just needed a little work before mastering. I have taken care of it. I've been doing a lot of work in the Ohio area lately so I don't mind taking it on.

Sounds like a CURATOR....who else has the ABILITY to do such things?

Cynthia Curtis, A183502, US7875087, which comment above are you referring to?

Cynthia Curtis, A183502, US7875087, it isn't a curator it is the profile manager. It does not assist anyone for you to assign blame where you don't have the facts.

If you think any user, even a curator, has done the wrong thing you can report them via the "Actions "Report" functionality. Geni customer services investigates all reports.

Thank you. Again, WHO is able to LOCK? Just asking for clarification.

1/26/2019 at 11:06 PM

Mette, you are welcome, cousin! Geni is a WONDERFUL place to build your tree. Every entity that has interaction with others can be trying and the world is full of oposing views and personalities. I do hope that the CORRECT “tree” is the outcone of our interactions here and I remain positive that a few nasty bullies will not be able to keep sincere seekers from the task of creating a correct collaborative tree. Good night. 😘😴💤

By the way, congrats on the Mastered profile and thank you to the curators for the work they do. 😘💕💕💕💕

Only curators can lock. Correct?

1/27/2019 at 6:32 AM

Private,

Yes only curators can lock a profile down. We can also lock down the relationships or individual parts of a profile.

Emily Matilda (Cortes) Forteneret is ready to be curated as a master profile, is one for the books due to it having actual records of the very recorded slave trade of the Portuguese into New Orleans; has the primary records plus the segmentation information. Thank you.

Master Profile status sought. Capt. John Hayes

Hi Mette, from previous discussions I understand that this was going to be referred to customer service. In these cases the curators need to wait til customer service do their investigation.
Leanne

Hi Mette, if you believe this person is breaching Geni’s T&C’s you need to contact Geni Customer Service - you have made a lot of statements in multiple discussions about this person and said you were reporting them - so I assume that is why you are not getting a response from them. Curators cannot assist you - you need to take your issues with this person up with customer service.

Leanne M (Volunteer Curator - Australia) 🇦🇺 - opening a Ticket with Customer Service is something only a Pro can do - if she is not a Pro - what can she do?

Private User, All users including basic, pro and curators can
* send an email to misconduct@geni,com to report it.
* can go to the profile of the person you are reporting and click "Actions" then "Report"

Both of these instructions have already been given to Mette.

Leanne - thanks. I am glad to hear sending an e-mail to misconduct@geni.com is something all users can do.

Reporting somebody on their profile can apparently only be done if they have not already been Reported by anyone for anything.
