Lewinstein may have been respected in his day, but not everyone trusts his work. Lewenstein's son, relying on his father's work, is apparently the source for the false story that the Horowitz family descends from Spain. See https://avotaynuonline.com/2016/03/does-the-horowitz-family-from-bo...

Did you Randy split the Horowitz tree before or after that date?

Yes, we severed the Horowitz tree from the fantasy. I worked on the article with Avrohom. Interestingly, the newly published Jacobi Papers agree with this result. Over and over again, Jacobi points out that these deep connections are false and invented in the 19th century.
