I joined the project and attached a number of my great-grandfathers (most of them have a locked master profile, and I need the help of a curator),But I need guidance: from both my grandmother and my grandfather, I am a descendant of families and rabbinic dynasties.
Who to add into the project? Did i just add the first one to a certain family? Not Always i know who he was
And if I add all my great- grandfathers who were a rabbi, I would have to add hundreds of profiles
what should I do?
i Thank you very much for your explanation

Dear Haim,

Thanks for the question. We are looking for rabbinical lineages with large descending trees. We only want the oldest patriline ancestor for any given lineage. So for example if Ancestor A has six sons who each have six more sons, etc.. We only need Ancestor A in the project. Not the 6 sons and 36 grandsons, or the umpteen great, great grandsons.

We only need one representative in the project for any given rabbinical lineage: the oldest known patriline ancestor.

The main point of the project is to identify the lineage using the oldest known patriline ancestor and then find a living descendant who can be yDNA tested.

Cordially,
Adam

PS: Haim, the best thing to do about your own rabbinical lineage would be to get yourself tested. Here is the initial test you need (Y111): https://www.familytreedna.com/products/y-dna#/compare A few times per year FTDNA has a sale--- so look for these. Once you have your haplogroup result from the Y111 test you can then find other lineages sharing the same haplogroup. which can be extremely helpful in tracing your own deeper lineage. If you would like to ask for financial assistance for your testing then you can post a new discussion explaining the request for donations to the project's general fund which is here: https://www.familytreedna.com/groups/cherson-family-project/about Donations should specify they are for your testing. When the necessary funds are recieved, I will order the kit to be mailed to you.

iI thank you very much,.
For example, my great-grandfather (from the wartski family), I was only able to reach to my great-grandfather (3), I know from here that we are also branches of the teomim family, Shaul whal,The Maharal from Prague...Rashi, and the same thing in my great-grandmother on this side, but unfortunately, I do not have a large family tree on this side, do i attach the great-grandfather from here The farthest I've been able to reach?
btw,
In Israel, DNA testing is illegal. I know many people do the test through relatives living in the United States

Dear Haim, The purpose of this and other similar projects is to break down the research wall between your ggf and the larger tree. What you have already done is correct, i.e. to join your ggf (haZadik haNistar Grand Rabbi Menachem Benjamin (Benasz) Katz Wartski, ztk"l,son after son to Rabbi Yitzhak Katz - son-in-law of the Maharal from Prague) to the project. The next step in your particular branch is to obtain the yDNA signature of your branch. Then, when we find another similar yDNA signature, there will be a positive indicator of how you are connected to the larger tree. Since I have not read the Israeli law you mention, I cannot be certain whether the law says that no testing companies are allowed to operate in Israel or that no Israeli citizens are permitted to test themselves. If it is the latter, and you are subject to the Israeli law, another option is to have a friend or family member order the test elsewhere and then bring the testing kit to you in Israel (this is a small plastic vial for holding some saliva) and then bring the kit back with him or her. The testing may be done under a fictitious name so that no third parties would ever know who gave the sample.

dear adam,
I really appreciate your answer
Although there was a time I was looking for cousins living today (and was very disappointed)
My main goal in geni to do is to memorialize my family on both my mother's and my father's side
That's why accuracy and truth are so important to me.
I will add my great grandfathers (on my father's side). if you need help and I can, i help.
As far as I can tell (I don't understand DNA testing) I should only include my great grandfathers, not my great -grandmothers, am I right?

Dear Haim,
This is correct. Since yDNA does not pass through females, you do not need to include your grandmothers in this project. Grandmothers would be the subject of a different study, using mtDNA haplogroups.
I appreciate your interest and support.
Cordially,
Adam

thank you very much

Hello Haim,
I would just like to note that Family Tree DNA (the test Adam was referring to) ship to Israel directly. I took it here in Israel as did many other Israelis. No legal issues with it whatsoever. Having DNA tested can go a long way helping you find your missing cousins as well as advance this project significantly. Please consider doing it.
Best,
Nikita
