Thomas Hamilton, First Earl of Haddington - Sir Patrick Hamilton

I am trying to identify the Sir Thomas Hamilton who married Rachel Nicholson née Burnet, the daughter of Robert Burnet (1592-1661) after her second husband, Sir Thomas Nicolson, died in 1656.
Can anyone help? I think he would have been an advocate as they were all connected with the law.
