George was a seaman and at one time an officer with the East India Company, between 1794 and 1798 was Captain of several ships on the England to India run, including Briton in 1794 and Isabella in 1796.

He married an English girl, Mary Ann, in Madras, India; her surname is not known. A son George was born in October 1797, both mother and son died March 1798. George arrived in Port Jackson as a crewmember of Britannia 18 July 1798, for the next 12 years he travelled as a crewmember on ships taking supplies to the Colony. In 1811 George petitioned Governor Macquarie through his captain Andrew Barclay on behalf of himself and the crewmembers of the Indian for permission to settle in the Colony. Permission was granted and the approval stated he was to make himself useful on board one of the government vessels.
