Our cited source does not contain this information. Where does it come from?

So place & date on that compilation is from the old Ancestral File.

I would think there’s microfilm (maybe the daughter’s marriage) to have proved the relationship.

I saw the American Ancestors citation, which I'm pretty sure I added. But the citation does not say anything about his birth year or place.

If there's microfilm, NEHGS hasn't found it -- which seems highly unlikely.

Feel free to edit him & his wife as you like.

The citations on laurenandtristan are a bit weird and some of the information is just incorrect. Henrietta MacQueen's profile cites a Geni profile for a Polish immigrant to Canada. They list a marriage for Duncan Smith and Henrietta MacQueen on 20 January 1817 at Ardersier, Inverness and the citation for the marriage is Select Scots Marriages (published), FHL Film No 990663. This has to be wrong because they were both children in 1817. If we look at the marriage records from Ardersier, we see that it was actually John Macqueen, teacher of mathematics… and Margaret Campbell who were married on Jan 20. The family search Film No 990663 also links to John and Margaret’s marriage and the index does not contain Duncan Smith and Margaret McQueen/McSween either. Here are the 1817 Ardersier marriages: https://photos.geni.com/p13/4e/52/c9/0c/5344485697fa9ec4/20011817_m...
Also see here for the familysearch entry: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XT5H-NBM

Here is the real marriage records for Duncan Smith and Henrietta MacSwain, Jan 7, 1832 in Stornoway,
“Duncan Smith Weaver residing at Garry Thei..? to Henrietta Mac Swaine residing at Tong.” Nothing here about the parents unfortunately. https://www.geni.com/documents/view?doc_id=6000000140319926834&

Here is the Ancestry tree they are citing: https://www.ancestry.com/family-tree/person/tree/4897141/person/-14... They seem to know what they are doing (good sourcing etc…), but they also do not to have any sources for Angus’ birth location that I can find.

I'd rather wait and give people a chance to respond. But thanks, I'll fix it when the time comes.
