Alexander Stewart's wife was Elizabeth Kennedy daughter of Alexander Kennedy. He is the 4th Earl of Stewart of Garlies

Stewarts of Garlies are too big a deal to be missing, so he has to be a duplicate

Sir Alexander Stewart of Garlies

Or this one

Alexander Stewart, 4th of Garlies

Now I'm confused. It saya b 1507, d 1581 Flodden, but Flodden was 1513.

This also seems to not match the other accounts I'm finding out in the wild (though not seeing a lot of sources there either....)

There is an Alexander Stewart listed as killed at the Battle of Flodden who was the son of King James IV: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Stewart_(archbishop_of_St_A... who is represented here: Alexander Stewart, Archbishop of St. Andrews

There was an Aledxander Stewart who was 4th Earl of Garlies who lived much later: http://www.cracroftspeerage.co.uk/galloway1623.htm

https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/155339452/alexander-_4th_earl_o...

I've not found a connected version of this Alexander on Geni, and so I wonder if his profile was conflated into this timeline.

There was an Andrew Stewart killed at the battle of Flodden who was born to another Andrew Stewart (who based on the link text in Wikipedia seems to have been confused with an Alexander Stewart somewhere along the line as well): http://thepeerage.com/p10928.htm#i109275
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Stewart,_1st_Lord_Avondale_(se... He married a "Margaret" Kennedy

I suspect this profile has become tangled up through some merges and such. Unfortunately, for the family line I'm looking into, I don't really know which thread to pull on so thought I'd hop into this thread and flag it in case someone with more knowledge can make sense of it all.

Alexander Stewart, fourth of Garlies, was not a knight. He was the ancestor of the Earls of Galloway but he was not the Earl of Garlies.

Ah ha! Thank you, that is very helpful

Copying over a mail thread

I don't know if this will help or just stir the muddy water, but I got this from thePeerage.com, which cites _The Complete Peerage of England, Scotland, Ireland, Great Britain and the United Kingdom_ thusly

"Andrew Stewart, 1st Lord Avandale was born between January 1470 and 1488/89.1 He was the son of Alexander Stewart. He married Margaret Kennedy, daughter of John Kennedy, 2nd Lord Kennedy and Lady Elizabeth Gordon, before 4 February 1499/0.2 He died on 9 September 1513 at Flodden Field, Northumberland, EnglandG, killed in action."

Thanks, I took a quick look at the discussion and found an un related tree to peel off it. Not your question, but a good effect nonetheless. :). Will look more.

Managers of Sir Alexander Stewart, 4th of Garlies,

I am contacting you about this profile: Private User...

I put this in the discussions on the profile as well, so apologies if this is sending you two notes! I'm just exploring this branch of the tree and the dates, titles, and events are not really lining up for me, so I wonder if anyone has any information or sources that could help me make sense of it all.

There is an Alexander Stewart listed as killed at the Battle of Flodden who was the son of King James IV: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Stewart_(archbishop_of_St_A... who is represented here: Alexander Stewart, Archbishop of St. Andrews

There was an Aledxander Stewart who was 4th Earl of Garlies who seems to have lived much later: http://www.cracroftspeerage.co.uk/galloway1623.htm

https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/155339452/alexander-_4th_earl_o...

I've not found a connected version of this Alexander on Geni that represents the dates and titles from those other accounts, and so I wonder if his profile was conflated into this timeline.

He married a "Margaret" Kennedy and seems like one contender for who might fit in this timeline of the family tree and all.

Anyway, I suspect this profile has become tangled up through some merges over time, but I don't really have any data or sources one way or another as I'm just getting here . And since I don't really know which thread to pull on so thought I'd reach out in case someone with more knowledge can make sense of it all.

Sincerely,
