The first <Bailey> to settle in what would become West Virginia was:
Richard Payton Bailey and Elizabeth Ann Belcher are considered among some of the first settlers of southern West Virginia.
That family had its trials as well, to say the least.
as did the parents, whomever they were, of
Thomas Bailey Christian
I find it interesting to note that the massacres that produced the three orphans (one being TBC) and the Bailey massacre were about the same time.
Earl Smith Yes, they were adopted by Capt. Mastin.
I am trying to figure out why the Christian chose the middle nam <Bailey>/
A son of John Payton Bailey was Mastin Bailey .. so there the adoptive surname of TBC, <MASTIN> again..
But Mastin Bailey os of a later generation TBC being born in the 1770's and Mastin Bailey in 1802
