Going through the early Stanleys with this document, other references were already in the profiles.

I will tag the profiles I cannot find parent references for, hopefully others can. If not, we’ll detach.

Margery Ireland who married David Ireland, Esquire

This fellow has too many children.

Sir William de Stanley of Stourton

THE EARLY STANLEYS. BY W. FERGUSSON IRVINE, M.A., F.S.A PDF

The third William de Stanley is much more fully documented than any of his predecessors. If Emma was his mother, as there is every reason to believe, he cannot have been bom earlier than 1310. This would make 1330 the probable date of his marriage, though it was no uncommon thing for a man to marry at eighteen or even seventeen at this time. There is nothing to show whom he married; even the ingenious Helsby cannot supply a name. The Complete Peerage states that William "is said to have married Alice daughter of Hamon (or Hugh) de Mascy of Timperley", but adds, "there appears to be no satisfactory evidence of this marriage".
William had at least two sons and two daughters:

  • William (IV) his heir, born 1337, of whom later;
  • John, the founder of the line of the earls of Derby, born c. 1340;
  • Alice, born probably before the two brothers; Alice's marriage settlement with Ranulf le Roter of Kingsley, dated at Storeton in 1340, is printed by Ormerod (II, 91 and 447); it is probable that this was associated with a child marriage
  • and Ellen. Ellen married John, son of Stephen de Merton, in 1359. John de Merton died without issue in 1361 (Orm., II, p. 177).

William (III) died in April 1360 (B.P.R., III, 380).

This fellow has too many children named Ellen! Maybe the two Ellens are one, who married twice?

Thank you for finding this - you inspired the cleanup. Your study is beautifully formatted, I hope we can figure out a way to get it into Geni profiles.

Ellen Orrell Who married Nicholas Orrell (d 1436 ??) was indeed the question, and that makes her a younger generation than the daughter of William d 1360.

Visitations had no father showing for her:

She is seen as child of Sir William de Stanley, of Hooton but theres another marriage for that Ellin also:
