This James is shown in some trees as father of my William Welch. I haven't proven that connection yet, but in my research I came across the info I've attached under the Media tab.

Everything I've seen about this particular James has no midddle name, just James Welch I, and has him born in Ireland to different parents. The info I attached has more of those details.

There are a lot of same-name men in the Welch lines and trying to determine if / how they each connect is proving challengings .

I don't think this James and his wife Vannie were the parents of the WIliam in my line IF Vannie was born abt .1735, as that's the same general date of birth given for the WIlliam in question. So either some of the dates are incorrect or it's a case of same-name confusion with some trees connecting the wrong William to these parents.

I have been researching this Welch man. Does anyone know a male Welch from this line. My father was a Welch and I have his Haplogroup through a close male cousin. I have been trying to determine if my gggrandfather Welch was part of this family (James the Packhorseman) Welch or if he is part of John William Welch's family from Tryon County, NC who came from Pennsylvania.

Well, I find myself back here after having worked on DNA matches on Ancestry ThruLines today that show me matching Indigenous Americas - North with descendants from this line and our only common ancestor is Nancy Ann Welch and Thomas Blakeney. Nancy Ann is showing in various trees as the daughter of William Welch who was the son of James 'Packhorseman' Welch and everyone is showing William's mother as Vannie (Daniel) Welch, Cherokee.

In the past I wasn't having DNA matches on Native American DNA to validate these connections, but now they're all that makes sense of the DNA info.

Everyone on Ancestry seems to show John Welch I and Nancy Bilt as the parents of this James 'Packhorseman' Welch. Does anyone have proof which sets of conflicting parents connected here is correct?

Most are showoing this James as James John Welch I. Geni is the only place I'm seeing the middle name Walter. But chances are more likely he didn't use a middle name. They weren't very common in his time period.

I had posted before about a problem with the date of birth for Vannie and I see on Ancestry now that her date of birth is showing as 1715 • Benton, Cherokee Nation East, Polk County, Tennessee, Colonial America.

If I hadn't encounted all the DNA matches pointing straight at these lines today, I wouldn't have been sure about any of these connections, but all the DNA evidence indicates Native American on these lines.

I have disconnected both sets of parents. One set had a mother born in America, which makes no sense, if James Packhorseman Welch was born 1720 in Ireland. The other set belonged to a Pennsylvania James Walter Welch, who still has another James Packhorseman Welch attached to him as a son. This needs to be fixed. James Welch

The name of Packhorseman Welch's Cherokee wife is unknown whereas the other James Packhorseman Welch is married to Cherokee woman

I also got rid of the middle name 'Walter'.

I believe people are confusing two families.

Thanks, Hattie. I think you're correct. It's so easy to happen with same-name folks.

I didn't have time to re-do research to fix James Welch

I'll try to re-visit it later in the month.
