On the 1920 Census, Jacob, Mary, and their daughter Rose are all listed as born Russia, the other 3 children are listed as born New York.
By the 1930 Census, Rose has moved out of the parental home, is now Rose Nachman - still listed as born Russia.
The 1940 Census also has Rose born in Russia.

The 1915 NY State Census has Rose born in Russia, while Helen and Frances were born in the U.S: https://www.geni.com/photo/view?album_type=photos_of_me&id=6000...

Has anyone found their 1910 US Census record yet?

There is a passenger manifest showing the New York arrival of Marie and Chaje Siegel aboard the ship Rijndam in 1907: https://www.geni.com/photo/view?album_type=photos_of_me&id=6000...

Marie Siegel is 24 and is accompanied by a daughter Chaje, age 1. I believe (but cannot prove) that Chaje was Rose's Hebrew name (or more likely, part of a compound name Chaya Roza/Reisel). Both Marie and Chaje are said to have been born in Kowno. Marie's father is H. Blum (= Herzl Bloom Herbert (Herzl) Bloom) in Kowno.

They are supposedly going to Marie's spouse and Chaje's father Bennie Siegel at 202 W. 37th Street in NY. This is the same address that Jacob (Benze) Siegel listed on his passenger manifest when he arrived in NY aboard the ship Statendam in 1905: https://media.geni.com/p13/a4/35/f0/56/5344485fac0fa259/siegel_benz...

The name of the person that Marie and Chaje were going to stay with should either have been Benze rather than Bennie, or else he should have been identified as their brother-in-law and uncle.

I have identified what I believe to be Rose's original birth record from 12 January 1905 in Vilijampole, Kovno. However, although the date, place, parents', and grandparents' given names match well what we know about Rose, there is some uncertainty because the family uses a different surname at that point. For now, we can consider this speculative and evaluate Rose's birthplace based on the other evidence at hand, or we can discuss it further if people would like.

I agree that Rose is born in Russia - I have seen name and age changes over Census years including my own close relations, Rose (Reizel) could have been a middle name. Gravestone might clear this up. Do we have it?
