Currently showing as DNA Markers: R-M198 J-M267 details, which is impossible.

Hello Erica Howton so this means there is at least one son that doesn't belong to him. Am I right?

11/18/2021 at 1:28 PM

Or grandson, etc

11/18/2021 at 1:29 PM

Possible grandfather William Sharp, Sr. shows no conflict and a group of DNA Markers: R-M198 details

So it’s possible one of other sons of Thomas Sharp, Sr. is linked in error.

J-M267 details contributed from a son of

Clyde Dearl Sharp

11/18/2021 at 1:32 PM

James & John are the DAR established children.

Do you see the DNA tree when you open up the DNA tab?

I’m going up the tree of the J contributor.

11/18/2021 at 1:44 PM

I think your Patriot John Sharpe

may be the misplaced man as his father is NN Son of Maj. Thomas Sharpe (very uncertain.)

11/18/2021 at 1:48 PM

In group 30 is James Deloss Sharp b. ca 1783 d. ca 1824 J-Z18182 (same as J-M267) & he’s an ancestor of Clyde Dearl Sharp

11/18/2021 at 2:00 PM

The R M198 contributor descends from Thomas Sharpe, Jr

Y DNA testing

As of 18 November 2021

https://www.familytreedna.com/public/Sharp?iframe=ycolorized

James Deloss Sharp Is listed as a child of John Sharpe at https://services.dar.org/public/dar_research/search_adb/default.cfm.... However, Y DNA testing shows “group 30, earliest known ancestor, James Deloss Sharp b. ca 1783 d. ca 1824” J-Z18182 (same as J-M267). He is an ancestor of Clyde Dearl Sharp

It is possible John Sharpe is also J M267 but so far do not see that result. The ancestor of this John is “Group 19, earliest known ancestor,
Thomas Sharp, d. 1749, Cecil Co. MD R-Y13786
(Thomas Sharpe of Cecil County), who is an ancestor of Harold Chancellor Sharpe, Sr

The disconnect resolved the Y DNA conflict.

[[363677820350011581] I could have helped earlier, but I just read your posts. At Wikitree I (Sharpe-1664) have connected myself through documentary links to each of my Sharpe ancestors extending to Thomas Sharpe died 1749 in Cecil Co. Maryland. He is my 6th great grandfather. My ydna is R-M198, and my more specific big Y 500 test result is R-Y137866. There is no evidence yet revealed for the father of Thomas d. 1749. Someone else added the other Sharpes on Wikitree. At Wikitree, my 4th g g is John Sharpe born 1744 died 1812. At DAR he's a private, not a captain.

Faustine Darsey on partial hiatus - can you check on Geni’s profile for John Sharpe 1744

Philip - Faustine is a DAR expert. I’m going to go ahead and disconnect the speculative NJ ancestry for Thomas Sharpe of Cecil County So glad you’ve done the DNA testing!

11/19/2021 at 12:42 PM

Ydna results can make or break the deal! I am very interested in discovering the father-mother of Thomas d. 1749. If I ever get any promising leads I'll look into it again.

11/19/2021 at 5:54 PM

Hello Erica Howton John's parents are correct per DAR information. There is a very recently approved application going through Thomas m: Gillespie and John m: Lilly McKay.

11/19/2021 at 5:55 PM

John Sharpe 1744 Ancestor #: A102952

11/19/2021 at 6:52 PM

Thank you, Faustine Darsey on partial hiatus

I’m rather pleased at how good this Sharp tree is now. It does seem to be that James Deloss Sharp was truly thought to be of this line - he’s DAR accepted - so it must be very recent, and thanks to Big Y! That there’s this proof that it can’t be so. Never say genealogy is ever over.

Hello Erica,
I am also pleased and glad to see an example of using DNA to make corrections. I did find another tree with James Sharp & Isabella McKnight. Neither show a father for James. What do you think about merging them?

Merging done.
