ATTENTION Curators, please assist.

This discussion is a continuation of https://www.geni.com/discussions/216411?page=270 wherein one of your friendly neighborhood Curators suggested we create a discussion as a focal point for users requesting help (see https://www.geni.com/curators for more information about curators).

When you get stuck or have technical difficulties on Geni, your first port of call should be the help system. Click "Help" at the bottom of any Geni page.

If you have specific issues with a profile, contact the managers of the profile to ask them for help. They will be able to help if for example a profile is private and you would like it made public. If there is concern regarding the accuracy of a profile, you can start a public discussion from the profile to discuss the issues / sources. If the issue relates to a project area, start a discussion in the relevant project. There are various "country portal" projects where you might find it easier to post in your native language if that is not English.

Give people a reasonable time to respond to messages - a week or two is reasonable. Not everyone is online every day.

If you have tried these options and failed, then consider posting a message here to request a friendly Geni volunteer curator to help you.

If you do post here, then please observe the following guidelines:

1. Only post here after you have tried to contact profile managers and given a reasonable time for response - see above.

2. Always post the URL of the profile(s) with problems. If you can't get to the exact profile URL, be specific - e.g. "the partner of [partner's URL]"

3. Do not post here if you want a historical profile that is living marked deceased. There is a separate "zombies" thread for that at https://www.geni.com/discussions/217559

4. Do not post here if you want a profile made into a Master Profile (MP). There is a separate thread for that too, at https://www.geni.com/discussions/217560

5. If the profiles where you want help are closely related to you, say so in the request. Curators can help you more with your family than with other profiles. Do not expect curators to know your family tree.

6. The best issues to post here are technical issues that any curator can resolve. Do not post here issues that require specialist knowledge of particular times or geography such as 16th century England. Those sorts of issues are better handled in specialist discussions.

7. If you would like a curator to help complete a merge, first "stack" the profiles to be merged if the Geni system allows you to do that.

Many requests to curators are asking to merge or make public private profiles. Please be aware that there are limitations on what profiles curators can merge or edit.

Please read https://help.geni.com/hc/en-us/articles/360050649553-Can-curators-e... before posting such a request.

Above all, be courteous and patient.

Merge-issue: There appears to be two different profiles about the same person lined as mother and daughter even if the years are approximated the same.

This as the mother is the same as her sc. daughter:
Alice de la Haye

So called daughter, but born in the same timespan as the previous Alice:
Alicia Hay

Please assist, kind regards,
Maria

Private User there is a 15 year age difference between the two Alice's, a daughter being named after her mother is not unusual.

Burke's Peerage and the Scot's Peerage are by no means infallible but this is a research question better raised with other users interested in Scots genealogy of the early Middle Ages, it's not a technical issue that a Curator is just going to know the answer to off the top of their heads :)

Private — it is not; the reason it’s there is that some bad merges happened down the line.

Working on it now.,

Sounds good Private User ....
I will stay out of there :)

Please unmerge, the parents and siblings do not match.

This one also doesn't match.

We have to be very careful with the Wilsons because both the surname with its variant spellings and many of their given names are very common. I spent a great deal of time researching and documenting our branch which includes a landholding veteran of the American Revolution as one of the patriarchs. Without proper documentation the many different Wilson branches of that era can easily become confused.

Thank you.

The elder William Wilson (born in Yorkshire, England; died in Fairfield Co., SC), brother of John Wilson, in his will dated 1812 named no blood heirs other than his brother. (John William Son = John Williamson, and is not identified in the will as a family member).

So the William Wilson in the recent merge, who was born in Virginia and married with children -- is not the same William who otherwise would have been James Wilson's uncle.

The witnesses on William Wilson's will are further evidence that he was our James Wilson's uncle, as they all three have proven family connections.

There is a Patrick Norris listed on the 1820 census for Fairfield Co., possibly the Norris who married James' sister, Martha. Nevertheless, our Martha was the daughter of John Jr. (not William) Wilson.

In my notes I have Margaret Johnston (James' granddaughter) married to Abraham Norris (proven with court probate records). And Rachel Wilson, James' niece, married "a Norris". But no real proof of marriage between Patrick Norris and Martha Wilson. That she did marry a Norris is proven by their father, John Wilson, Jr.'s will.

Private User, I've done what I can; for anything else, you may need the help of a curator who isn't blocked.

If you haven't already, I would definitely recommend starting discussions from the profiles where you can preserve the very helpful posts you've made here, otherwise they're liable to get lost in the shuffle.

Thanks Ashley, I only needed the two merge reversals for now. Adding the corroborating information was just an afterthought, but I appreciate the advice and will link to this discussion in James' About.

Hello, I need help removing Anna Henriksdotter born 1829 as the mother from this profile Jan Enarsson I cannot do this as it will split the tree. Would someone please help me?

Brian Aslak Gylte do you just want to remove Anna as the mother or also the father Enar?
Is Anna Henriksdotter , the current mother, the same person as the foster-mother, Anna Henriksdotter

Brian Aslak Gylte more technically, to disconnect the mother Anna from Jan will require either that we disconnect both parents from Jan OR that we disconnect Anna from Enar, leaving Enar as a single father. We can then create a new spouse for Enar (who has no connection to Jan) and merge the existing Anna into the new wife (if appropriate) resulting in Jan having a father but no known mother.

If you could explain the specific family structure (or link to an online tree that is publicly visible) that would be easiest for us to help you achieve what you are attempting.

Two different people named Anna Henriksdotter had been merged. I tried to correct this by creating a new profile, but I couldn't detach the mother-son relationship so I redefined it as foster-mother, and removed her marriage. So I just need to sever that connection.

The old Scandinavian patronym system resulted in many people with the same name, but due to her birth year, she could not possibly be Enar's mother as she ends up with the same age as her own grandchildren.

Thank you for your assistance!

Please unmerge Jean-Baptiste Chartier

Private User , done.
