It looks like there are two points of dispute for her parentage. Burke’s (etc) show her as daughter of Sir William Merley of Morpeth (I don’t quite follow this argument); and that Guy de Balliol died with his nephew Bernard his heir, which leads many to not believe he had a daughter.

However:

In 1149-1152 we find Roger de Bertram, the son of Hawise de Balliol, confirming to St. Mary's Abbey, York, the grant of the church of Stainton, made by Guy de Balliol, which church, he says in the charter, was given by his father, William, and his ancestor Wido de Bailliol—"pater meus Willelmus et avus meus Wido de Balliol.”

To me, that’s a compelling case for reconnecting, and so have done. I’ve tried to reflect the dispute in the profile.

Thanks, Steven.

Managers of Hawise de Baliol,

I am contacting you about this profile: Hawise de Baliol

I see that at one point Hawise was connected as a daughter of Guy Balliol. That would have matched Cockayne's Complete Peerage (https://archive.org/details/completepeerageo02coka/page/160/mode/1u...) and Medlands (https://fmg.ac/Projects/MedLands/SCOTLAND.htm#_Toc65391147.)

Should they be "reunited" here?

Sincerely,

Steven Mitchell Ferry
