Private User , do you have a source for this? I have never heard that "Some attribute Shakespeare's work to Sir Francis Bacon"

Aemilia Lanier, Writer and Poet was a poet and well acquainted with William Shakespeare, Bard of Avon . There are many sources linking them in circles

By the way, William Shakespeare and Francis Bacon are 6th cousins. Francis and I are 6C13R, which makes sense as my pathway to him involves a lot of the same people as with William.

You'll note I stated "some attribute Shakespeare's work to Sir Francis Bacon, 1st and last Viscount St Alban's not that I attribute the work to Bacon.

I don't support the Baconian Theory, but there have been some who have and do still, https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baconian_theory_of_Shakespeare_auth.... Several people have put forth their theories on who Shakespeare was and some have been in favor of the Baconian Theory. Just type in "sir francis bacon as shakespeare" and the blogs and papers for and against this supposition will populate.

There is not true source, that I know of, which definitively proves that William Shakespeare was someone other than William Shakespeare. Even you stated that Aemilia Lanier, Writer and Poet was "well aquainted with" and there are "many sources linking them in circles". Not proof she was the great author herself.

William Shakespeare, Bard of Avon is for all intents and purposes, William Shakespeare and as someone with a BA in English Literature, I've come to accept this and move on to reading his plays and appreciating them rather than proving or disproving their authorship.

I threw the Baconian Theory in there because it's great to speculate and fun too!

They even made a movie with the premise that Shakespeare was someone other than William Shakespeare, Bard of Avon. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anonymous_(2011_film) was a fictionalized account with a fictionalized character as the " true" bard. Fun to watch, but with no basis in fact.

Private User thank you for the response and link
VERY interesting!
My favorite little fact about Shakespeare is that he never spelled his name consistently the same

Here is the theory put forth by the movie, Anonymous, which I mentioned above:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxfordian_theory_of_Shakespeare_aut.... Most Shakespeare scholars are emphatically against this theory, but it is the most popular, modern theory supposed.
"The Oxfordian theory of Shakespeare authorship contends that Edward de Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford, wrote the plays and poems of William Shakespeare."

Edward de Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford

Edward de Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford

Mom's side: Edward de Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford's is your first cousin 14 times removed.
Dad's side: Edward de Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford is your fifth cousin 11 times removed.

All the authorship theories originate in the 19th Century or later and are based on fanciful conspiracy theories, not hard evidence. Nobody in Shakespeare's time ever questioned that he was the author. Shakespeare was an actor and the plays are ripe with examples that the author was a theatre insider and knew his fellow actors well. The more I've studied the plays in detail, the more I've realized it makes complete sense that someone in William Shakespeare's position and with his educational and socioeconomic background wrote them.

Agreed. Fun to speculate though and to learn how these historic figures all knew one another and how they were related or associated :)
