When I first started my tree, I used any GEDcom I found to build it up. Doing so, I saw I was related to Gen. William Scott through his sister Elizabeth. I saw I was descended from Hancock Lee and Sarah Allerton (and the Mayflower folk) through their son Richard. I also saw that somehow I was related to Richard Lee the Immigrant and Anne Constable (and the royal printers to Elizabeth I folk) through their son William. I felt very special indeed.

However, once I started reading actual contemporary documents on these people, well-written books on them, and viewing the Lee DNA results, I realized something: I wasn't directly related to any of these people at all!

I was upset, I felt betrayed, and felt like a sucker for barking up the wrong trees, but you know what I did? I deleted those people out of my tree and guess what? I felt much better because it was the right thing to do.
