Loretta was apparently quite proud of her Native American roots (Cherokee, specifically), which were said to be on her maternal side. But, I cannot find any actual records to support this. Nor is it evident to me from her Geni family tree. Has anyone seen any relevant documentation? Which ancestor in particular was Native American? Or is this all just family legend?

Not sure on her Native American connection.
But her spouse mother Angeline Webb is linked to Loretta Webb Lynn as a cousin thru her fathers line. If I did my research correctly-

If one of her children would do dna test - things would be in open. Other than her being a German descendant.

Yes, a DNA test would be helpful! It doesn't surprise me at all that Loretta was related by blood to her spouse's mother. I think that sort of family connection is pretty common (I've fund a few examples in my own family). BTW, it appears that Loretta and I are distantly related (13th cousins, meaning we have the same 12th great grandparents, if the lineages on Geni can be relied on).

I found this on FamilySearch: Judge is justified
I heard this story from my cousin Billy Ison. He told me about my grampa "Judge", R.Z. Litteral, https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/LBR7-PD3 being related to Loretta Lynn and Crystal Gayle. The word was that no-one in the area of Butcher Hollow believed him. He loaded up his car one day and took a group out to the relatives, which would be the Ramey or the Blair residence and to everyones surprise, they all knew him. "Nat" was often mentioned. This was Nathaniel's nickname, Clara Marie's father. Clara was 1st cousin to Judge. That ended the debate. I speculate if this is how grandpa got his nickname for being honest? It's funny to wonder at this point. I would love to hear what the rest of the family thought of my grampa. Clara was my 1st cousin twice removed and I never met her but she looked so much like grampa.
I grew exceptionally close to him, as he was my only living grandparent that I remember besides his first wife, Maudie. She died when I was a toddler, but I still vaguely remember her. It has been said that Minnie, grampa's mother, was full-blooded Cherokee, however, I have yet to find any evidence aside from the photos with the strong facial features and the stories that have been passed down through time. https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/memories/LHM3-ZJ1

Rebecca Jane Salyer would have been the mother mentioned above.https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/LZL6-86P

A William Salyer, a direct grandparent, was born in France, 1 August 1631.https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/LZ1K-SNM
The rest of the grandparents that decended were located in the East and Southeast.

Loretta's family history is amazing, and maybe it was a family story that was passed down that has no "proof", but it's a sweet story anyway. I didn't find any evidence of Scotch-Irish or Cherokee in the profiles, but maybe somewhere some great news awaits Loretta.

I'm related to her by blood on both of my parents side and there is native on both sides for me.
Please remember don't put all your trust in this web site.
My father's native line has been completed mutilated to satisfy some curiators own family desires.
You need to use ancestry, familysearch and others with paper trails along with this site.
